Btw guys I thought Xerri looked real heavy footed again. Not sure if it's down to match fitness but he doesn't look remotely close to what he was in terms of agility and acceleration.

im all for constructive feedback however when you have a team that’s finally played for the first time in a live game and you have a squad on the other side with much more experience. What do you expect?

We done well. Yes, there should’ve been a bit more attacking side of things, however, don’t forget that it was pleasing to see a defence be much better than last year with how poorly we were in leaking points.
Unfortunately some posters have issues that run far deeper than a game of footy.

Sharks pack looked pretty good. Missing Uele and Finucane, still dominated the middle over us. I think they’ll def play finals again. Was a good hit out for team to see we ain’t were we need to be. Defence so good to see though. Even watching Taafe drop em one after the other, I honestly thought we’d hang on for once

Hard to really make any sort of judgement based on that. I’ve really been impressed with the defensive improvement in the 2 trial games but the attack just isn’t there at the moment. Having said that, if I had to pick between the 2 I’d pick defense every time. Attack will click in time and combinations improve. A few other quick observations -

- Taafe was terrible, we all know that. But biggest concern is the first dropped bomb affected his confidence and he got progressively worse. Not the type of mental fragility you want your fullback to have.
- Disappointed Ciraldo didn’t give Sexton a full 40. Can’t really see why Hutchison is that far ahead of him.
- Crichton really good signs as a captain
- No chance Preston has anything resembling 2nd year syndrome.
- Burton was our best spine player and it wasn’t close. He needs to be less passive for sure and direct the play but lol at the supporters wanting a Hutchison and sexton halves combo.

I know what you’re saying it was definitely rusty but if we lost by 30, what positives can we take out of it?

alright we figured out the negatives, as a club/fan/coach/critic. You need to show positives, what do you think was good that you saw tonight compared to last year ?
I said several times I liked our Intent and intensity in defence Kikau was destroying bodies. We also didn’t drop our heads after that easy try the Sharks got , I liked Currans performance, Critta will obviously be amazing for us. We will get naturally better once we play a few games and the team is settled.

Don’t forget it was 38 degrees.

He wont start round 1. Kiraz will play centre with Wilson outside him.

Exactly.
Clearly more work to be done, errors have to be eradicated/reduced by half and combos need to improve etc.
But that was not that bad..some doomsayers just can't get out of their own shithouse mindset.

Don't believe his fluff mate, those two are thick as thieves when it comes to "mantra be negatory just because" :tearsofjoy:
I’ve seen your descent into being fairly spiteful this past offseason and early trial season. You weren’t like this in July of last year.

Tbh I’m shocked he’s looked this good after 4 years. I was expecting multiple knock ons and for him to just get physically dominated. He’ll be dangerous with more match fitness

I sometimes say that in a game thread out of frustration when we drop the ball 13 times in a game but the other half are genuine points. I’m yet to see you give any real reasons why we should be positive about this performance and season except that you hope we get better after a few games.
you havent been reading then have you, literally said our attack needs work but defensively that was so much better. Attack will come eventually, defence has been our issue for years

tell you what I’m gonna start banning people who complain like kids.

It was their FIRST game together, what the hell do you expect? We knew that our side had a lot of orthodox players playing some positions. I’m glad we lost by two SUPER SUPER soft tries. Grow up

we look better than last year. MIND you all Cronulla still had more than half their side playing and we changed our team to New South Wales cup players.

so if you look at that that has to be a great result for our club. I don’t know what you guys are watching, but Cronulla had still most of their players on the field.
Spot on lad

Tbh every year the team sheet improves and performances like that are produced the more depressing it is. Losing by 50 when Pay was coach with that squad will not be as brutal and painful as it will be this year if it happens.
