Yep that is true. It’s a tough one. Would ATM limits in licensed premises & no reserve button on machines help at all?

In reality, problem gamblers could skirt the issue of withdrawal limits by leaving for 10 minutes to visit an ATM elsewhere. I don't see how people with issues stop unless they decide to and have the willpower to stop. I know that the mother of my nephew's mate stole $70k from her employer and threw it in the machines trying to win back what she'd lost. She copped some jail time and hasn't been able to get work since getting out. She still plays the pokies.

I'm pretty sure that if serious efforts to reduce the spending people could do on pokies was tried by politicians, they'd be heavily targeted. These things take upwards of 32 million per week in NSW if I remember correctly what I read a couple of years ago. That'd go a hell of a long way towards advertising campaigns that'd demonise pollies with good intentions.

speaking of golf.
I know a guy who would of went on to become another typical Aussie pro golfer.
Instead his dad introduced him to gambling at young age along the way.

this boy grew into a man with a horrible gambling habit.
He had a scholarship to become a pro golfer and pissed it all away for his thrill of gambling!

this guy used to rip off every golf pro shop on every coastline of Australia to feed his addiction of gambling.

He wouldn’t leave at first it was a bit of a novelty yeah alright play it to $11,500 and you might hit another decent win but no we all got into a bit of an argument as the dickhead was loosing it all and getting the shits. I ended up saying we are all going mate come with us. He wouldn’t and it kind of turned a bit ugly so we said fuck ya we are going.

it wasn’t until years later that he admitted that he went and got help because he ended up staying to 10:00am the next day and ended up loosing $4500 of his own money so blew $16,500

As soon as you pop a win of $1500 or more on the pokies it's time to hit collect and bail!
Especially if you're at Sefton playhouse on a Saturday night!
