In reality, problem gamblers could skirt the issue of withdrawal limits by leaving for 10 minutes to visit an ATM elsewhere. I don't see how people with issues stop unless they decide to and have the willpower to stop. I know that the mother of my nephew's mate stole $70k from her employer and threw it in the machines trying to win back what she'd lost. She copped some jail time and hasn't been able to get work since getting out. She still plays the pokies.Yep that is true. It’s a tough one. Would ATM limits in licensed premises & no reserve button on machines help at all?
I'm pretty sure that if serious efforts to reduce the spending people could do on pokies was tried by politicians, they'd be heavily targeted. These things take upwards of 32 million per week in NSW if I remember correctly what I read a couple of years ago. That'd go a hell of a long way towards advertising campaigns that'd demonise pollies with good intentions.
