he was an ok finisher, competent.
But thats bare minimum required for NRL wingers wouldnt you agree?
Hi nasheed!
Welcome back from the kennel dungeon. Glad to see you back.
I understand your take on el masri and respect that.
My opinion of him differs from yours where I think it wasn't all about finishing movements from an era when the dogs where consistently on top of their game. I agree he Wasn't super speedy but he had a good head for a winger. His awareness and positional play was very good. I rarely saw him get bundled into touch. Rarely saw him go for an intercept and get it wrong and concede an overlap. If he left the defensive line, he would nulify the attacking raid. Just a few points what made him a very good player than your normal speedy guys who fade just as quick as they can run.
The points records he held will always be a legacy he will have. Just give the rest of his ability a thought.

howland was the star signing but only scored 3 tries under the sherwin grubbers and dominant forward pack, el masri scored 31 in the same period, which is over 1000% more

el masri scored 34 tries before sherwin and 21 after he left, most of those in bad teams

his 55 without sherwin tries is better than howland had in his whole career including sherwin, so you can slice it anyway you want but el masri still comes out ahead
I never said Howland was a better player, just a faster one. Howland didn't have a big career.
Although he always seemed good when I watched him at Cronulla, but I'm biased because I'm a speed freak.

I would just miss that list with my time of 11.7 secs... lol true story

Now would do the 100 in 11mins in my old age
11.7 would put you as a genuine speedster in the nrl.
Especially in today's world. We have backs that can't clear 13 and it's disgusting

Some good points sure. Except he was found out a few times in defence form memory but no more than any other to be fair

El Masri as a player + kicker = better player
El Masri if just a winger only = wouldn't have played 80 games.

so many people forget that El Masri was actually dropped before Halligan retired. Kicking became a way for Hazem to survive and get coached by Halligan. Brilliant choice.

Hazem had played 94 games before Halligan retired and scored 44 Tries. Played 50 games in the last 2 seasons Halligan played with us.
Anasta and Sherwin were both good goal kickers too and were there

How come only since 2010 yo?

imo, players have gotten slower since they bulked up for the modern game.

This doesn’t show him being a speedster
Hahahaha

you serious?
Coming from no where and stopping a certain try? Whatever.

As earlier mentioned, he was fast earlier in his career, then slowed down, as you'd expect.

Nasheed here,
Fun thread for a change. Since every other thread is board related or whether Barrett is taking bad advice coming here.

what is your fastest all time Bulldogs backline bs the slowest?

AND who would win in real footy!?

not going to touch on halves because it's a different discipline. Captain is the slowest and fastest.

I'm very curious on who you come up with because I think about this stuff a lot.
I am going to include 100m times for the fast guys.

Fastest;
1 Ben Barba (11.4) official as per race
2 Nick Meaney (10.9) stated in article
3 Brett Howland (10.7) guesstimate. Was second fastest after Darren Albeet who was 10.6 (c)
4 Josh Morris (11.2) guesstimate
5 Brent Dallas (10.8)
Notable exception Rod Silva (11.7) who told me privately that's his time. Reimis and Luke Mcdougall

Slowest;
1. Will Hopoate
2. Hazem El mAsri (c) and coach
3. Shane Marteene
4. Willie Talau
5. Daryl Halligan

so;
1)who's your team?
2)who wins?
From memory, Brett Morris at his fastest, was faster than Josh.

He was faster when he was younger but he wasn’t a speedster, coming in cover defense against a guy that was busting tackles and changing direction.

it wasn’t as if it was an intercept and he chased him down with speed lol

elmasri was a good winger, he was a little elusive who could find the line but wasn’t much of a long distance try scoring winger with speed.

Alot of hALLIGAN posts in this thread.

Halligan was very slow whilst he was a dog, but i distinctly recall seein retro footage of him on the footy show where they note he was a speedster very early on at norths.

he slowed down dramatically.

He wasnt Barba quick but he for sure was like Dane Gagai quick.
