KNOCKOUT specialist Brett White has a simple message for every whingeing Queenslander north of the border - it's all your fault.

White has declared history's most explosive Origin finish was only put in motion because veteran Maroon Steve Price kneed him in the head.

The Melbourne prop yesterday suggested The Daily Telegraph "look at the tackle" when quizzed about why he KO'd Price, which instigated the biggest interstate battle since the American Civil War.

The claim - which Price denies - comes as White also revealed he was fronted on-field by his own Melbourne teammate Greg Inglis who screamed, "I'm gunna kill you."

"What started the fight? I think if you have a look at the video . . . at the tackle . . . I think it's pretty clear," White said as he broke from camp yesterday.

"But you know, it was two bookends going at it. That happens in Origin sometimes because there's plenty of passion out there.

"Same with the way the game sort of ended, that's Origin too.

"And that's why we love it so much. Why it draws a crowd, why it's the pinnacle of rugby league. It's full of passion."

Sporting a swollen cheek, five stitches and enough concerns to keep him sidelined for at least a week, Price denied he sparked the fight with his knee.

"All I remember is tackling Brett and he was a bit upset by something," he said.

"I think me and Smithy were in the tackle so I don't know if (he thought) I did something wrong or Smithy did something wrong. But I didn't deliberately knee him. I can remember that.

"He obviously felt something touch his head and everyone gets upset with different things in games. It doesn't always end up being that way but that's the way things are."

Meanwhile, it was revealed yesterday the now-infamous "up-and-under for an all-in-brawl" was the brainchild tactic of Queensland's skipper Darren Lockyer.

The five-eighth ordered Smith to punt the ball high so their defence could clobber whichever Blue caught the ball.

Smith yesterday confirmed the ploy was payback for Steve Price's poleaxing and the pandemonium that ensued.

"You don't really see a team get a penalty and then kick the ball straight back to the opposition," Smith said. "We thought the best thing we could do was give one back for our teammates.

"Locky came over and asked what I wanted to do. We decided to put it up as high as possible and get down there in some field position and get stuck into them.

"If they want to call us sore losers, then we'll call them sore winners. They were easily in front and weren't going to lose when that stink started between Brett White and Steve Price.

"It ended up being two-on-one when (Trent) Waterhouse came in. They've got to look at themselves."

But in a strange twist, Blues halfback Brett Kimmorley last night revealed his side intended to do exactly the same thing had NSW received the penalty after the White-Price punch-up.

"We were going to kick it high and straight to Justin Hodges," Kimmorley said.

Blues winger Jarryd Hayne chimed in, saying the Maroons started the violence because they were "embarrassed" at losing in front of 50,000 spectators.

"They couldn't win the game so they tried to win the fight. They lost that as well," he said.

"The way they carried on was just immature and silly.

"The game meant a lot to them. They played in front of a huge home crowd and were embarrassed by the way they played," Hayne added.

If only NSW had the chance to kick it to Hodges...

Hodges can SMD, apparently the throat slit was aimed at kimmorley. Hodges needs to be taught a lesson, if only watmough or white punched on with him instead of price
