Local junior Mitchell Woods has locked in his place at Belmore until the end of 2027.

Signing an extension earlier today, local product Mitchell Woods will stay on with the club, and claim a spot in the Bulldogs NRL Top 30 squad from 2025 onwards.

Coming off the back of captaining the 2023 Harold Matthews premiership-winning side, the club could not be more pleased to lock Woods into the Bulldogs' future plans.

General Manager of Football Phil Gould said, “Mitchell could have chosen any number of sporting codes to pursue a professional career, our game is lucky that Mitchell has chosen rugby league… the Bulldogs are both honoured and excited that Mitchell has chosen our club."

"He is obviously still young, and has a long way to go, we certainly won’t be rushing him but we won't be holding him back either. I am extremely excited about his prospects."Screenshot_20240108-170807.pngScreenshot_20240108-170823.png

Great to hear it confirmed. Hopefully he keeps developing and can eventually become a key player for us. He certainly has the talent and while we can say that about a lot of youngsters, Woods seems special. His ability and skills across rugby and AFL speaks to the quality of athlete he is.

But the key is to not put too much pressure on him. I'm sure he'll keep dominating the junior grades and progress when he's ready..

Awesome....alot of kids get wraps early on and amount to nothing, but the talk and hype about Woods feels different

Hope like hell this kid progresses how everyone expects him too

If he does, we could have a special player on our hands

Say what you will about Gus and the FG squad/results but over the past 10-15 years we've lost a lot of our best juniors and would have lost Woods without Gus around. I'm pretty sure of that.

Eventually our crazy amount of talented junior grades players will lead to some stars in FG. Hopefully Woods is one of them.

Everything else is coming together, it is only a matter of time before first grade follows suit. We have a prop problem at the moment, but when this kid starts getting more attention one of the likely byproducts will be an increase in our attractiveness to good young props.

Great news, he shows real promise

Now the key to young halfs is patience. We musnt feed him to the wolfs prematurely like we did with Karl
and go out and get him some middles

If you can't buy a good half then develop one of your own. This is great news for the future Bulldogs. From memory we also signed Alex Conti who was a rising star at the Tigers and also a cross code talent who is said to be challenging to play half in our NRL side in the coming years.

Though he is not a Bulldog junior he is only 17 so we can development him into a Bulldog through our pathways. This aspect of the Dogs in enhancing and expanding our development is great and what will build us into a strong club to win the comp.

Good stuff, top 30 contract in 2025 is a bit iffy but it would've been almost impossible to get a signature without a guaranteed NRL contract, still at least 2-3 years off being an option and hopefully he has a somewhat balanced team to come into.

Great talent. Hope he does well. But the fact is he has been playing against other boys.
He needs to take the step up to playing against men.
