Yes at Manly he had Stewart predominantly playing on the left outside him and DCE on right. Manly also had prime Glenn Stewart. That Manly side was actually stacked with ball playing options, we don' have that luxury.

Foran has to step up and play in the 7 for us. He's always played as more of a 7 and guided the side around the park abd that's the role we need him to play. Playing Cleeland or whoever else in the 7 isn't best for the team.
I think Cleeland will be the best fit for that role. Foran plays like a halfback in his passing and running but doesn't kick often and doesn't have a very controlling kicking game. Cleeland has a decent controlling kicking game but plays more of a 6 role for the rest of his game.

Hasler was playing Eastwood as an edge backrower last year. He is a middle forward with good footwork and an offload, his defence also is still very good as a bit of a known ‘hitman’. In 2018. I agree maybe part of the bench rotation or maybe as a starting lock. Tolman may be relegated to the bench I just don’t see Klemmer it Woods starting off the bench.

I think Hoppa showed enough in the last few games with his linking to the wingers to have first crack at fullback in 2018 (I just would love to see him sniffing around forwards to grab offloads) Foran will play direct (it his bread and butter) and that is what we need. MBye maybe in the trials can play 5/8 and play on the right side (Foran is a left side specialist) I don’t know about fullback (under the highball etc)

I don't think Cleeland has much of an long kicking game though and that's our biggest issue. No one in our team has the experience or ability to manage a game with their long kicking game. Short kicking game will be less of an issue this season as i genuinely believe Hasler put little importance in that aspect of our game. Some proper tactics and coaching in this area will sre a massive improvement imo.

I do think Moses has a lot of improvement in his kicking game though, his technique changed considerably in firstgrade compared to the lower grades. He used to kick through the ball and drive it low rather the shitty loops we see today, no idea why he made that change.

I guess it will all come down to coaching and confidence because we really need to manufacture a complete kicking game. If the boys are confident in what they are doing and know what they want to do and work on their execution then i guess we will somehow manage. Do think we REALLY need a kicking coach though, hopefully a certain former number 7 plays that role for us..

I'm happy with giving Mybe a shot a Fullback. There were so many instances this season where if we'd had a high speed Fullback, we'd have scored and setup at least another 20 or so tries.

Hopoate was good, but he just isn't what we need at the back right now.

Some on here have said he played FB in his junior days? Will be good to see him have a crack. Sounds more and more like this will be our team next season

1. Mbye
2. Bmoz
3. Jmoz
4. Hoppa
5. Montoya
6. Foran
7. Frawley
8. Woods
9. Lichaa
10. Klemmer
11. Jackson (c)
12. Elliot
13. RFM

14. Fualalo
15. Tolman
16. Martin
17. Brown

I personally would chuck Tualalu in for Tolman. But at the same time Tolman is a workhorse and balances out our pack somewhat. He will be crucial next season without Graham.
Swap Frawley for Cleeland. Frawley had an opportunity as was average at best. Like to see Cleeland have a run in the halves with Foran.

Or Foran at 7 and Nu Brown at 6.

DEan pay seems to be worth the money, every coach knows SPEED is not something you can coach and Mybe is our quickest player over 60 meters so it only makes sense to have this kid at FB ... I am soooo excited with the direction and vision of Pay, to have Liccha say Pay is a great coach and lets you play what is in front of you, the only way is up for us in 2018 ... go the might Blue and White !!!! woof woof!!!

Brenko is as good as gone. Pay knows how bad his defence was from his Raiders days.. thats why Raiders were happy to release him but not Edrick.

Brenko's days are numbered... he won't have his contract renewed unless he suddenly learns how to tackle.

Possibly the best post I've seen you write on here :grinning:.

100% agree... Forans strength is hitting the line fast and engaging defence, or reading the defence and knowing where to inject himself in play to create and overlap.

That and he has a bloody beautiful passing game.
Aaahhhh hello, edrick lee played for the sharks this year mate, so your first post is nonsense. And how exactly do you claim to know what pays opinion of brenko is???
If brenko fixes his defense in reggies next year he can take over from Jmoz and be an absolute weapon. He is one of those players that just makes shit happen.
In my opinion, anyone who wants to hang brenko for his defense at the ripe old age of 21 and completely write him off has absolutely no clue. If he was a solid defender he could be right up there with the best. Long term i think he will end up in the backrow anyway, and he could be awesome there too in my opinion.

And Hopoate displayed his ball passing skills in the final games of the season, when he chimed in and threw perfectly timed passes out to the wing for tries. I thought then that he looked a natural centre who could read opportunities, and draw in the defence.
Yeah i agree. He started out as a great winger, and then became a pretty good/average fullback, so i think centre is a good halfway point where he will excell. He is a pretty solid defender and he puts his body on the line. I thought he returned the football pretty well this year too, he just lacks that blistering speed you expect from a fb.

Terry Lamb wasn't a speedster either; but he had the experience and ability to think quickly, assess a situation, and send someone through a gap. He also knew how to back up play, and be there for the final pass. As Rex Mossop used to say: "he is fast between the ears, and that's where it counts". Foran may be able to deliver much the same at No. 6.
I dont really think it matters what number he has on his back, foran will play the same way anyway. So to me i think its funny that people seem to want to argue what position they think he will play.
Like yoy said, being quick between the ears is what matters, and this is Foran. So he will control the tempo and direct the traffic where he wants it to go regardless of whatever number he has on his back!!

I understand. But you give him the benefit of the doubt like we are alot of other players....

He will still be at training around the boys. So regardless his lazy attitude will rub off on them.

700k is alot of the cap to be sitting out. He will be in the 17 (unless released). If he flops after 3 rounds and a 150k player can do his job. So be it.

Everyone gets a clean slate for me in 2018. Eastwood has better credentials than Martin atm.
Thats a fair call as far as im concerned.

Apples and oranges, the bloke has been through many clubs over the years and is fragile as you stated. That's why I don't want him at 7, what happens if he plays up or gets injured again. Let the guy get fit and focus on doing what he does best and that's playing 6. At Manly he and Cherry Evans rarely linked up on the edges. Brett Stewart was the key factor their. If Mbye gets involved out the back and we are playing over the advantage line it's not going to be a major issue anyway.
One major point of reference is Townsend and Maloney. Who's the dominant player and who wears the 6? No reason why Foran can't wear the pants and still play five-eight
And vice versa. It really makes no difference what number is on their backs. It makes me laugh how people love to debate what position he plays. Who gives a shit?!! He will still play his natural game and control our attack.

Newsflash sweet cheeks ... Edrick and Brenko both played in Canberra system for years before moving clubs.. and guess who was Asst coach at that time?

Oh and I know Pays opinion of Brenko because I know people at Mounties, which is where Brenko spent many games, dropped due to poor defence.

Dogs wanted Edrick, Raiders said "nope you can have Brenko". Idiot Castle accepted.

Brenko will spend most of his time in NSW Cup this year, except if there are long term injuries. At end of season, as good as gone if he hasn't fixed his defensive lapses.

I find it hard to leave Brenko Lee out of the side. He is our most potent attacking outside back. Before you bunch of bananas start talking about his defense, that will improve with experience. The hard thing is working out who gets dropped.
If the team fires under the new coach We won’t need him to pull a rabbit out of the hat every time we will have strike capabilities across the park

That’s wrong Des had a hard on for Brenko for several years he had a few cracks at him and finally got him last year. They almost got him half way through 2016 but Stuart wanted to keep him!

It was one of the things I was thinking. Maybe with an offseason to prepare Jmoz could slot into the backrow. He's big enough and except for this year his defence is good enough and he could do some damage running the ball.

If he needs to be in the team then yes I would move him out of the centres and into the back row of the bench.
Hoppa and lee if he learns how to read the defence and tackle a better option
