Phone double demerit points actually started a week ago and they run straight through til after Australia day. All other demerit points started last night and run til the 4th Jan then again for Australia day weekend.

They're cracking down heavily on mobile phones.

I wanted to get one of those for Christmas, but the Mrs said "No"
You're so whipped. I demanded permission from my wife to order another bride.

pffft, I wish I had a moot. My fingers would always be wrinkly
I'd put various objects up my hypothetical moot.

Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day 24 December 2015 to 3 January 2016
Australia Day 22 January to 26 January 2016

The double demerit point scheme applies for the following types of offences:
• Speeding
• Illegal use of mobile phones
• Not wearing a seatbelt
• Riding without a helmet (e.g Bruce Jenner)

I got it originally from Daily Telegraph

Looks like they've amended the story a bit though.

Seen plenty that should have. Since my indiscretion with a red light camera a while back have been very good and ensured that I followed the road rules to the letter. Had to drive my son to Heatherbrae to meet his Dad this afternoon and between home and there saw about twenty patrol cars parked and waiting.Sitting on 110km in the appropriate areas and had car after car whizzing past and disappearing into the distance. Hopefully they will be receiving a little present in the mail in about two weeks time.
