With all the drama surrounding Ivan Cleary and his son Nathan, did the Tigers screw themselves when signing Mbye and not leaving enough money to attract what would have been a certain signing in luring Nathan Cleary? Could this be one of the biggest stuff ups we have seen from a club in a long time (with the exception of Hasler stuff up)?

Nathan is commanding up around $1m. If the Tiger's from 2019 had a spare $700-800k prior to Mybe's signing then all the Tigers needed to do is offload one or two players and they get their man in Nathan.

Instead they go for Mbye! This is a total disaster for the Tigers when you consider the calibre of Nathan to Mbye and the fact he is only going to get better over the years not to mention a State Of Origin player, merchandise sales and marketing along with an increase in memberships.

Or, is it a conspiracy theory Ivan knowing that he was going to the Panthers because Nathan didn't want to leave and the Tiger's coach planned it so they couldn't afford his son by exhausting their cap?

Nathan's dad is the coach of west tigers. Ivan would be the first person to know if he was going or not and plan around that.

Not having Mbye or Reynolds would have allowed them to chase Nathan Cleary hard with plenty to spare. Woops!

Ill think they still would've signed him even if the numbers didn't stack up. Every team seems to be under the salary cap except Canterbury and Manly. Even Manly are dodging bullets. I suppose TPAs would've been massive as well.

Cleary went to the Tigers because he had no other offers... and a chance to rebuild things.

Panthers just re-signed Cleary long term so are playing a game.

Would laugh if Cleary told them to get fucked now.

I question why the Panthers want Ivan. Is Gould forgetting he sacked him a few years ago???

And I question why Nathan is calling the shots at home. Why isn’t he going to the Tigers and following his old man after what the Panthers did you him (Ivan)? Why is it the other way around???

Can't now ... Panthers signed him till end of 2024 season.. so it effectively forces Ivan to move to Panthers if he wants to coach his son.

1. Beating west tigers a few weeks ago
2. Klemmer smashing him
3.the bus driver dropping his kids off and driving to Penrith

Where are you seeing that Nathan re-signed with the Panthers? I thought he was off contract in 2020 which means rival teams can approach him in November? Nathan would be silly to sign anything now especially when there will be a bidding war for his services.

Unless he has a get out clause of some sort in his contract

Did the Bulldogs score themselves by not sacking Des and Co earlier when Ivan Cleary was available?
There were people on here calling for it to happen. A halves combo of Lewis and Cleary would be a dream....

Nathan is a way better player than Mbye will ever be. He deserves the money he will be getting as he has already represented his state. Mbye has done nothing and cant even find his position, as he is not a fullback because he does not put his body on the line at the back.

I think Penrith think nathan will want to go to Ivan so they are trying all the moves everyone in the nrl is under the illusion that you have to get Ivan to get nathan but Ivan would be advising nathan as a father of a club offered nathan a good offer and the team would suit nathan and money and to help his career he would tell him to take it
The only advantage Is Ivan is a nrl coach and there fore can help him make the right decision

Tigers still have enough cap space to sign NC. Problem is he wants to stay at Penrith.

Who really wants to be coached by your dad at senior level? Im not doubting family bonds and looking out for your son etc etc. But this is professional football not park footy. Ivan needs to man up and tell gus to eat a dick. He sacked him once and will sack him again. Stay at Tigers and honour your contract man and let Nathan stand on his own and grow.
