This is really upsetting, poor woman. :(

A Perth man suspected of shooting dead his two young children before killing himself was a "gentleman'' who loved his family and never made trouble, a family friend said today.

Police say the man's 28-year-old wife returned to her house in Redcliffe, in Perth's east, about 6.30pm (WDT) yesterday to find the bodies of her two-year-old son, six-year-old daughter and husband, 34, in the master bedroom.

While police would not confirm it was a murder suicide scenario, they said they were not hunting for a gunman and they did not believe anyone else was involved in the shooting.

A pistol licensed to the father, a taxi driver, was found at the scene, police said. The man belonged to a gun club, they said.

No witnesses reported hearing any gunshots.

It is understood the man and his wife are from Afghanistan and came to Australia at least 10 years ago.

Detective Sergeant Dave Robson said they had not established a motive for the gruesome crime and that by all accounts they seemed a very happy family.

"There have been no incidents in the past that the police have attended here,'' he said.

Perth Afghan community leader Reshteen Sarferaz said he had known the dead man for many years.

"It's unbelievable, because he was a gentlemen. We never, never had any problem with this gentleman before,'' Mr Sarferaz said.

"He was a great man, so it is a big shock for the community, the family, for everybody.''

Mr Sarferaz said the man had loved his children and violence was totally out of character for him.

Next door neighbour Peter Kemp said the man had always seemed a "happy sort of bloke''.

"He didn't seem like he was depressed or anything,'' Mr Kemp told reporters.

"We got on all right with them, they were very friendly,'' he said.

Mr Kemp became emotional as he spoke of the dead little girl.

"She used to come and run through (our) sprinklers,'' he said.

"You don't expect something like this to happen next door to you.''

Det Sgt Robson said it was tragic two young lives had ended so violently.

"It's always very, very disturbing when a young child dies in this way,'' he said

The mother was with relatives and receiving counselling, Det Sgt Robson said.

"She is distraught, she is beside herself, she has lost her whole family,'' he said.

Forensic investigators were this afternoon continuing to comb through the house in a quiet suburban cul-de-sac for more evidence.

Det Sgt Robson said the identities of the deceased were likely to be made public later today. The bodies of all three were removed in two separate cars at about 9.30am (WDT) today.

I thought i lost my Godson when he was only 2 years old, he decided to take the dog for a walk, when i was in the shower.

I had Police in cars, helicopters and trains and buses looking for him.

After about 5 hours, i went for a drive and found him asleep in a park about 5 minutes from his house, with the damn dog standing guard.

Thank god he wasnt hurt, still to this day i dont know how they got out, the doors and the gate outside were all locked
