LEAGUE FLU BRONCOS HUNT
BRISBANE, June 11 AAP - Broncos fullback Karmichael Hunt has become the latest NRL player to contract swine flu.
AAP understands the Brisbane No.1 has been told by medical staff he has tested positive to the illness.
But it is understood the NRL will push for the Broncos to still play the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Brisbane tried to have the match postponed until Sunday with its players quarantined and unable to train since Monday as it awaited the results of swine flu tests on Hunt.
Queensland Health said earlier on Thursday it had no power to stop players from taking part in the match and, while it will offer advice, any decision on whether the game proceeds as scheduled rests entirely with league officials.
The Bulldogs are set to fly to Brisbane this afternoon and want to play the Friday night match.

They were never going to move it..its all a media beat up.

Its a massive disturbance to the team with the lack of preparation, but they have to get on with it and play. Hopefully the broncos come out with a better effort then they did last week.

If Broncs are down a few players, doesn't mean we should be over-confident.

The Newcastle game was a good lesson for us. Let's hope the boys learnt!

Yep. They are a few down but we can still lose it. They are a quality outfit and will be looking to fire after the week they have had.

NRL says Friday game to go ahead as scheduled

Hunt tests positive to swine flu

AAP Thu, 11 Jun 2009 14:26:16

The NRL says Friday's match between Brisbane and the Bulldogs will go ahead as scheduled at Suncorp Stadium despite Broncos fullback Karmichael Hunt testing positive to swine flu.

Hunt has tested positive to the H1N1 virus but after consultation with the Queensland and NSW health authorities the NRL has decided to proceed with the game.

Hunt, who was treated with Tamiflu on Tuesday, may also participate in the game depending on a medical assessment.

The rest of the Broncos side, which has been in quarantine since Tuesday, have been allowed to play in the match provided they display no symptoms.

The Broncos had been pushing for the NRL to reschedule the game until Sunday, with their players not training since entering quarantine, but the governing body has refused to budge and will force Brisbane to play despite keeping the team in isolation until the game.

"The NRL's chief medical officer, Dr Ron Muratore, has confirmed that the players will have been in isolation and on Tamiflu for a sufficient period to allow them to take part in the match tomorrow night," NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said.

"Health Authorities have reiterated that one of effects of this week's measures has been to take every step to ensure that the players would be available.

"Our advice is that the match can go ahead but that the players should remain in isolation until that point.

"Karmichael's condition and the possibility of him still being contagious is a matter for club medical staff in consultation with the health authorities. We will of course monitor this closely.

"We accept that this has been a major disruption to the Broncos preparation but illness and injury can affect any preparation at times.

"The disruptions around rescheduling the match would also be significant to the preparation of the other team, to the venue, to the fans, government infrastructure, the sponsors and the broadcasters.

"We will continue to work closely with club doctors and health authorities to manage what has been declared as a major public health issue."

No doubt about that.
We will have to perform at our best to defeat them.
It will be a good test for Kevvy.
The Team will bring it home for him...

LMAO Brisbane are going to get owned at home. I love it.
Dont get too cocky. Dogs will need to fire up. Broncos have had a shocker week and got belted last week. They will be ready to stick it up us for this and we need to be ready.
