Is there any chance we get him for 2021?

Let's hope we get him in the new year so he at least has a couple of months training with the boys. Anything to avoid seeing Lewis in FG ever again please

The question is why is it taking Penrith so long to sort their shit out in terms of Chricton and Laui. You'd think they'd be signed by now. We probably wont get anything until they have locked up all their stars

They are also probably trying to sort out their shit with Naden as he is still contracted for 2021.

I'm thinking it won't happen until after round 2 so he can't play against the Panthers

If we're still chasing Crichton and Leniu why would they do us any favours ? If it's about a transfer fee - easily sorted you would think but even a bit of cash might not be as important to them as keeping him as a back up. Cash + a player swap maybe. Wish they would take Lewis or Wakeham. We only need 1 of them as a back up or maybe we could do without both and go with Bailey Biondi-Odo as back up.

I can't see why Penrith would release him. He'd be taking up stuff all of their cap, seems the type that would knuckle down regardless and get on with it, and is a great versatile depth player for them (even with golden boy Tyrone May there). Unless they get a player trade or compensation, what's in it for them?

true... some clubs do though seem willing to allow under contract players to leave if their progression to the first team is blocked and they can sign long term elsewhere... for example, Corey Allan is under contract for next year but Fox Sports reported that the Rabbits won't stand in his way if he can sign long term elsewhere

an early release is clearly in Burton's best interests to move to his new team a.s.a.p instead of languishing on the Panthers bench or in reserve grade and he will earn a lot more with us... it is clearly in our interests too... it is a loss for the Panthers but some form of financial compensation and a clause that he doesn't play against the Panthers in 2021 seems fair

the Panthers are also in an interesting spot because they are now on everyone's radar as to their players and they are going to have to manage their squad and players coming thru well

Souths aren't willing to let him leave because his progression is blocked...they're willing to let him leave because he's on a couple 100k and doesn't make their best 17. He just doesn't provide enough value for money at this stage.

Burton meanwhile is on minimum wage and although he doesn't make their best 17 he still provides tremendous value. Imagine having a 500k half as a backup on minimum wage...no chance i'd be letting him go.

It's best we do without both Lewis AND Wakeham. The opposition morale increases exponentially when L or W are on the field.

True, would rather biondi-odo than lewis or wakeham, haven’t seen a lot of him,but does seem to have a bit of speed about him,and needs a little bulking up.
