In news that may not surprise anyone, Anthony Mundine has put his hand up to join the Bulldogs' coaching staff in the wake of Trent Barrett's sudden exit.
Canterbury are due to begin their search for a head coach to succeed Barrett from 2023 but in the interim are desperately trying to piece together a football staff to see out the season.
It comes after a handful of Barrett's assistants and specialist coaches also left this week following his resignation on Monday.
Mundine has stunningly declared he's eager to link up with the Bulldogs as a coaching consultant.
Mundine played 134 first-grade games with St. George, St. George Illawarra and Brisbane before forging a highly successful boxing career.
Now retired, the 46-year-old believes he has the tools to galvanise the last-placed Bulldogs through the remainder of the season.
“The Man’s the man,” Mundine told 7NEWS Sydney.
“It’s mindset, that’s something I do bring.
“I know the game, I’ve been playing since I was four.
“Obviously used to play State of Origin and whatnot, should have played for Australia but that’s another story.”
Mundine also believes he would work well alongside powerful Bulldogs football manager Phil Gould.
“I can get along with Gus, he’s all good,” Mundine said.
“I gave him nightmares in the ‘90s but if he doesn’t hold that against me, it’s all good.
“Rub a bit of Mundine flavour into the Gould flavour and we’ve got a championship team.”
While Mundine's plea to the Bulldogs is expected to fall on deaf ears, the Bulldogs are due to announce former Tigers coach Mick Potter, currently with Mounties in the NSW Cup, as their interim coach for this season.
Beyond that, Shane Flanagan, Paul Green, Kristian Woolf and even Brad Fittler have been tossed up as viable candidates to fill Barrett's role long-term.
Gould said earlier this week the tough job that lays ahead at Belmore required a coach with runs on the board when it comes to leading a club back to the finals.
"I think it's a job for an experienced man. It's not an easy situation," Gould said on Nine's 100% Footy.
