I do agree, it's pretty farcical. Imagine if the nfl suggested playing a weekend of games without star quarterbacks etc being unavailable for their teams.

They played origin after the season during covid year.

Player availability dropped and the viewer dropped on TV less advertising revenue.

Main reason for origin is the amount of money it generates hence is overrules the NRL at club level meaning players have to sit out and watch their team get smashed and perhaps ruin the chances of making the finals.
