Maybe. But the ‘at least he’s trying hard’ commentary around Mahoney will get really old really fast if he’s constantly making the wrong decisions out of dummy half. Him playing up to his ability is way more crucial to our success than any other player in the spine

If Hutch is 5/8th with Sexton or Taaffe at HB, Mahoney won't have to overplay his hand. But it would be good for him to admit he overplayed, so us fans know, and he can then focus on just doing his role as a hooker.

If he has better ball playing halves in the guys I mentioned and he is still over playing his hand, the fans will stick it to him if he doesn't pull it off.

Mahoney came to us having already established himself as a top player in his position. So, we know what he's capable of which gives him a little leeway I think. For how long ...

Burton wasn't an established 5/8 before coming here having made his name in the centres. So, we've never really know what his ability is at 5/8?

This year will be defining for him in that sense.

Burto’s 2022 form was much better, he went backwards in 2023. I still want to see another year at 5/8th, not writing him off as a 5/8th yet, he might rise to the challenge and go to another level but boy he needs to work his butt off, was very lazy in 2023 and looked unfit.

Burton is by far the most talented half at the club and you guys want to play two specialist halfbacks in the halves.

He had no preseason last year, no consistency in terms of his halves partner, or even the position he was playing, our forwards got absolutely pantsed week in, week out, and you lunatics are already writing him off lol
