I just get the feeling that no coach will be announced till after the season has finished. That's a good thing in my book. Focus is not on next year, but this year. The only signings we are making are just squad players, so it's not important who is coaching next year.
As long as it is before November when Burton can be approached and sign elsewhere - surely it is in our best interests to have a coach locked in before players can shop around

Given we are unlikely to make the finals. They will probably do it September or October to bury it. So it's not a big thing.

Without upsetting any of you...........Sure there are some haters out there, but if he was to coach and turn the tables on our winning mentality - the haters will start to forget what they hated him for.
Without upsetting any of us, if we think Fittler's record as a coach, for Easts and NSW, makes it crystal clear he has absolutely no idea how to coach a football team - we are haters!

I think you’re right. Fittler said last year he’d like another crack at full time coaching and it would be a perfect fit as Gus and Freddy have know each other for a long time.
You forgot to add that Gus can easily manipulate Fiddle .....the perfect yes man....

He was possibly my favorite Dog of all!
I believe he was employed as a defensive coach by the Tits which kind of confused me, i would have thought he was better suited as an attacking coach given his style of play
In saying that i haven't kept up with his various coaching positions post playing career
I feel he would be a great addition as a backroom/specialist staffing member.
His passing/work with J Smith and the other pigs at the time was exhilarating!!
Never thought of him as a backdoor specialist............oops. backroom. Sorry.

By that logic, Bellamy can’t coach either based on his record as NSW coach? Stats aren’t everything and coaches can improve and evolve. I’m not saying Fittler is the best man for the job I’m just saying you can’t automatically write him off because of his previous NRL record

I think you hit the nail on the head, but one factor also needs to be considered. Who can put up with Gus looking over their shoulder. Look what happened with Ivan Cleary. Both Gus and Fittler have known each other for years. If Freddy makes a bad choice with the team, Gus will be there to give pointers. If Freddy needs some advice, I’m sure he would be happy to go to Gus for that too. There isn’t going to be too many coaches that will like Gus being involved so that’s why also I think this is our only option.

Feels like it's going to be Freddy!!
Gus and John Khoury are getting our house in order before pouncing on the best possible target, then if necessary there will be plans B, C and D.
I have a hunch it will be plan A :-)

You call that logic? Bellamy has demonstrated over twenty years in the NRL that he most definitely can coach. His record for NSW wasn't anything to get excited about, but he had a playing group that was nowhere near as strong as Queensland. Since then the wheel has turned. NSW has had a much stronger squad than Queensland for the past four or five years, and, if we had a real coach (like Bellamy for instance), we would be putting them to the sword - every game and every series!

Fittler was a disaster at the Chooks. He could have, as you put it, improved and evolved. But we get to see his decisions up close and personal for NSW, and he doesn't appear to have learnt a thing. Dropping JAC was a dumb move. Dropping Jake Turbo was dumber, and Fittler more or less admitted it by putting him back in at the first opportunity. He picked a team for Game One that he thought could win. They lost narrowly, and the main reason was that Fittler sent them out to play an NRL game whereas Slater sent his team out to play an origin game.

Fittler made seven changes for Game Two - that reeks of desperation! Now, because of injury, he is drafting in fifth and sixth choice players while ignoring several who played Game One and almost but didn't quite get the job done.
