Realistically...how many years away are we from winning a premiership?

I don't mean to be a pessimist but we lack the strength in key positions to go all the way, we may cause a few upsets this year but we still lack the class that the other teams have e.g. kicking game, ball playing fullback, organisational half. When was the last time a team won a premiership with a makeshift halfback and fullback? Realistically i think we're still 2-3 years away from winning a premiership. Probably around the time when Abbey and another half back comes through. I maybe wrong, would love to hear your thoughts...

This year for me Des has had the side thereabouts for a few years now. I think it is time to break through and win a comp.

Every year from now on we have a better chance to win a premiership with the core of Jackson, Klemmer, Mbye, Lichaa,

And the likes of lane rona garvey abbey and hopefully holland phillips when Morris boys are gone

if our halves play consistent decent footy , and i say consistent decent footy not really asking for exceptional JT/Cronk/Smith style of plays (even though that will help the cause further) , no one can stop us from winning the comp.

I hope every year that it will happen but realistically we may be some time away. Lichaa needs to develop further and we need a genuine fullback. I think that Moses will end up playing 6 and we will get another halfback in the long term.

Difference between us and other teams is we don't buy players in positions where they are needed. We hope that our players will develop, there is risks in doing that because sometimes they don't and if they do other teams can offer big money and poach them.

You're no a pessimist Moedogg, you're a realist. For us to win he comp depends on a number of things happening at once.

1. Hasler gets us to play attacking football. Not the one out forward hit ups for the first four plays that get us nowhere. With this backed up by a defence that cracks wide open thanks to penalties against and turn over of possession.
2. Our forwards must be aggressive in defence and attack.
3. We have no kicking game so I'd like to see Dane Chisholm at half. He may not be a world beater but I think he can kick a football to the right placees.
4. BMoz and JMoz must be injury free.
5. Our fullback must be a specialist at that position. I don't care if its Kerrod Holland, Hopoate or whoever. Just as long as he is safe in defence and has an effective kick retutn.
6. Sammy P has to go. He has put in some terrific performances for the Dogs but now he is done in by his age.

So there. I know that none of the above will happen but its just my humble opinion.

I probably will upset people by saying this, but we won't win the premiership under our current coach.

We will win once that awful, clunky and slow style of play that frustrates me to no end disappears.
In fairness, all big players in our team should arguably be even better this year. We have a heap of rep players so there is no reason why not.
The good thing about the dogs is that whenever we look like we are gonna be sh*t for the upcoming year we are generally really good. Unfort it goes the other way also. A

Thats OK to say that but, who would you have as a replacement to Des Hasler to win that premiership and why?

You didn't upset me.

All Hasler has produced is a negative game plan. No aggression, no set plays and a flat line attack. ( If you're in hospital and you're flat lining... you're dead)

Also, Hasler has killed off the individual's attacking flair (Where's Damien Cook did you say?) and relies solely on defence which is a sure fire fail thanks to our penalty counts and turn over of possession.

So, who to replace Hasler? Well Jim Dymock would do me until someone better came along. Anyone who saw Jimmy play knows that he is a real tough nut who excelled in defence and attack whose heart is all Bulldog.

I'm guessing 1-2 years, we should have 2 more by now but we couldn't get over that last hurdle.

Just pissed that we can't do what the Roosters do and open up the cheque book when things don't look all that bright. They went from missing the 8 for two consecutive years to consecutive minor premiers in 2013,2014 and 2015. Right now our forward pack is being wasted without decent halves .
