Former Socceroos skipper Ned Zelic has reportedly signed a one-year deal with Dutch second division side Helmond Sport.

Zelic, who played for Newcastle United Jets in the A-League last season, reportedly did enough on trial with Helmond Sport to secure a deal with the Dutch club.

Zelic captained the Jets during the inaugural A-League season after cutting short his spell at Austrian side Wacker Tirol, and steered his side in to the finals. However in June he said he wanted to leave Newcastle to return to Europe.

The 35-year-old has played for a number of clubs in Europe and Asia, including Borussia Dortmund, Queens Park Rangers, Eintracht Frankfurt, AJ Auxerre, 1860 Munich, Kyoto Purple Sanga and Urawa Red Diamonds.
