1974 V 1980 V 2012- The real entertainers

I was too young to recall the 1967 GF, Canterbury's best side since the war. I was witness to the 1974 decider, a wonderful side. Six years later, the bulldogs gained their revenge against Easts.
These fore mentioned teams, IMO , have been our most entertaining Canterbury sides I have seen. THIS IS MY GREATEST COMBINED TEAM FROM THOSE SIDES.
1-BEN BARBA...the first player I chose. Hahaha
2-STEVE GEARIN...scored the greatest ever try in a GF
3-STAN CUTLER...very underrated
4-PETER MORTIMER....one of the greats
5-C.ANDERSON.... Try scoring legend
6-JOSH REYNOLDS...nudges out Gary Hughes
7-STEVE MORTIMER...would love him today
13-MARK HUGHES....light on his feet, great ball skills
12-JOHN PEEK....could offload in traffic
11-GRAEME HUGHES..... Gifted ball runner
10- JAMES GRAHAM.... Picks himself
9- GEORGE PEPONIS.... Test captain, could find a try.captain
8- BRIAN LOCKWOOD.... English legend
reserves- S.Folkes, S.Kasiano, G.Robinson, D.Moseley.

This side would match any of the great teams. They knew how to entertain.
Thoughts ???

11. Jason Smith
10. Darren Britt
9. Jason Hetherington

I went through everyone's answers and was very disappointed that the greatest wasted talent in rugby league history (could have been anything) Ewan McGrady was only mentioned once (on the bench). I can understand people picking Turvey ahead of him, but in the teams of the 90's onwards guys like Brent Sherwin(solid player) and Daryl Trindell got more mentions, no offence those guys were not good enough to carry his bags IMO. Also JT rated more mentions but he only played 29 games at the dogs whereas Mcgrady put in 60 games which i was privileged to watch him carve teams up at Belmore in the early 90's. Ewan i salute you and i hope ive brought you back into peoples memories! champion!!

I was looking through the 1980 team as shown on the Bulldogs website. It is the team that meant more to me than any other in our history. Not only did they win the GF but they did it in style.

Looking through the team a few things struck me:

1. They were not very big physically. Today's forwards are giants by comparison.

2. There were some stars in there such as Steve Mortimer and George Peponis but mainly they were solid first graders with a good attitude.

In 1980 my mother was still alive and a passionate Dogs supporter. She attended every game in Sydney she could reach. She arrived at the ground at 10:00am each Sunday and watched all the grades. She sat with the players' families and knew each player from there first game. She knew Peter Moore and his family very well. She never traded on these friendships for any purpose but the teams were all part of her family.

The 1980 team were part of that family and they played like they were a family. For instance no one could mention Gary Hughes as one of the great 5/8th's but he played his heart out and was part of a winning team. Geoff Robinson played like a guy who was 7 feet tall and weighed 130 kgs but in reality he was a little guy.

For me they will always be my mental picture of the Bulldogs whenever I think of them. We have an outstanding team and club now but they can never compete with the entertainers.
