I think its going to be tough challenge to make the World Cup.

Uruguay are going to come here and just defend the whole game. If we couldnt score ONE goal with all the pressure we put on them in the first half, then i dont see how we are going to get one past them on wednesday.

As Guus Huddink said "we needed to finish them off" ... but we didnt.

Good SCRAMBLING DEFENCE in the end, but the ease in which they made breaks and kept attacking leaves little confidence in our defence net.

We need our stars to spark something on wednesday.

Uruguay are just going to defend, defend, defend and hope that a counter attack will result in a CRUCUIAL AWAY GOAL.

We need to come away with that elusive away goal today, but we failed to capatalise on our chances, and Uruguay played an ATTACKING STYLE.

Next Wednesday, their defence will be much more tighter, and much more harder to break thru.

I reckon Uruguay's focus is going to be scoring 2 goals and holding the Aussies out

away goals are more valueable, Uruguay knew this.
in Australia I reckon the score will be 1- 2 or 1- 3 Uruguay's way

if uruguay score first in sydney

:( its pretty much over

what we need is a very early goal in the opening 10-15 minutes to open the game up

we need the game to be fast paced, the more tempo the better

while uruguay will try to frustrate us by slowing the game down

it all boils down to the aussies getting the good start as i said before

yeah just like the irani game in 97 where everybody thought its impossible for iran to comeback in the last 10 minutes with 2 goals down...

but if we beat uruguay 1-0 on wednesday... we will go into extra time and a possibility of a shoot out...

Id hate to say it but i think we are done for. I think Uruguay will score a goal here in Sydney and then we have to come up with 3 goals which is virtually impossible against this side.

Who knows. An early goal will scare them a little. Theyl start to panic and attack and possibly leave their defence vulnerable.

But yeah, a goal by uruguay and its all over. We should have slotted one in today with all the pressure we put on them in the first half.

We are not dead and buried just yet. To hold them out to only ONE goal is a fantastic effort in front of nutcase supporters.

I believe you guys are over estimating Uruguay. Don't forget they are very hard to beat at home ... even the best South American nations struggle to beat them over there, away from home they are not nearly as successfull.

The problem is not our attack, anyone who watches the English Premier League every week will know that we have plenty of strike power in attack, it is just a case of taking their chances which they failed to do in this mornings game.
The thing that worries me is whether or not our defence will remain firm.

At this stage Uruguay are in the box seat. They only need 1 goal and they're in.

Not long to go now. Going to be a nervous build up and nail biting game.

The future of soccer in australia relies heavily on this game.

yeah it would be big

imagine we make it and Archie Thompson scores a great goal

and everyone is looking at the player and that he plays for Melbourne Victory in the A League

you know the reason why it is making me so nervous

the fact that the world cup is the biggest sporting event in the world other then the olympics

and more so the fact that it happens every 4 years, which means if we dont do it now, im going to be 25 when we next get a shot

if it happened every year, and we had a yearly world championships

it would water the effect down, and it wouldnt mean as much

That and the fact that the Socceroos rarely get the opportunity to play against big name teams as well as in credible competitions. A loss during the week would not dampen the support for the sport as a move into Asia will hopefully see more big matches for the 'roos and more match practice for the team.
