Seen a recent trend last few years where good wingers or centres want to move to fullback or other more prominent positions to get more cash..

Im sure theres more names but from some i can think of below that did the move.. I still think their original position was the best..

There is very good value in having a genuine winger.. they play a big role in the game nowadays.. this trend is one pushed by player managers..

Isaako - Wing to FB
DWZ - Wing to FB
Val Holmes - Wing to Fullback
Cotric - Wing to Centre
Latrell - Centre to Fullback
Inglis - Centre to Fullback
Oates - Wing to Back Row
Bird - Centre to 5/8

I would rather prefer these wingers/centres transitioning because it is part of the club's long term development for them... not because they want money or more involvement or that they simply like the position more (Latrell, Reimis)

For example:
Daley: Centre -> Five-Eighth
Fittler: Centre - > Lock - > Five Eighth
Lockyer: Fullback - > Five-Eighth
Wighton: Fullback - > Five-Eighth

These are all done because the positions hone your ball running skills and full back teaches you ball playing, all crucial components of being a five-eighth. Perhaps Averillo is our long term five eighth, but playing him at centre and maybe even fullback later on will definitely get his running game going.

On the otherhand, Reimis is a total waste at centre and there doesn't seem to be any logical reason why we would make him transition. I'm not sure if the club wanted to play Reimis at centre because they wanted to bring in Okunbor, but hopefully we didn't do it just to accomadate for his preferences because he is absolute rubbish at centre.

These are also some good examples.
Minichiello: Wing- > Fullback
Slater: Wing - > Fullback

You’re assuming that they didn’t predominantly play those positions as juniors.

Some more examples;
Tedesco - winger to fullback
RTS - winger to fullback
CNK - winger to fullback
TTrbojevic - winger to fullback
Ponga - winger to fullback

Maybe the answer is that players need to learn how to play at NRL level week in week out before they can justify selection at fullback.
We have a couple of those ourselves, currently learning what is required to play NRL as a fullback.

I'm pretty sure all of those players were fullbacks in lower grades, but simply had to play wing because someone else held the position before them.

‘also especially when young players are introduced to first grade they usually start them on the wing to have less pressure whilst they get used to the pace and intensity of first grade

Like others said, I'm pretty sure all these players that are trying to move to fullback did play there coming through the grades. Smith originally played centre also.

Pay a player what there worth id pay 600k for a premier winger
Semi
Fergo
Addo
Holmes on his 18 form
Hayne
Brett morris too
If we had a winger like that 15+ tries
20-25 tries they should be able to command huge dollars i get the whole wingers aint important but a specialist winger should be prioritised more on the salary cap

600K maybe a bit much but i agree its worth paying more for great wingers.. All those players u mention are great and worth paying overs for..

It depends on the balance of a team You got too if you got rep halfs on big dollars there gonna help make average to above average backs look good but when u have a bloke like semi was at parra with ordinary help and could still score 20-25 tries a year shows Something special esp on ball returns or relieve hit ups could bust the line he is out there i was referring those players In there prime not today .
its a shame when a really good winger is lost to fullback or the centers puring on justifying money
