I wasn't that worried about his speed originally but I'm slightly concerned now, looks slower than he did in the lower grades and doesn't really have the same explosive power those other players had. As you said he's still only 19 so he might get there but right now he isn't looking anywhere near the sure thing people had him penciled in as.
Put it this way... he will get a growth spurt very soon and eventually look like the machine everybody was expecting.

To think otherwise is totally ludicrous.

Like Topine had a growth spurt?
Jackson's 21.. Patolo 22... Are we all gonna suggest they're done growing? Averillo is 22.. Are we gonna suggest he is also done?

The majority of our boys are still babies and have shown enough to suggest once they fill in they will be great first graders. To give up on kids so early is just plain stupid especially is they have already displayed the skill and attitude.

Where did I say I was giving up?

Whilst you do not need extreme pace to play in the centers, a minimum amount is required, and Paul sits right at the bottom end of the scale.

Once someone gets on his outside he is in massive trouble and players usually do not get faster after 19 or 20 years of age.

Not saying he will not be a good NRL player, but his ceiling is lower than it was a few years ago.

I think we will struggle to keep both him and Jake.

Alamoti insisted he wants to remain a Bulldog for the remainder of his NRL career when speaking to Zero Tackle.

“I've come through since I was 11, so all I know is blue and white. Hopefully, I can stay here for the rest of my career. That's what I want to do,” Alamoti said to Zero Tackle.

“I'm just focusing on what we're doing, what's happening now, and that's just playing week in (and) week out and trying to do my best for the team.”

He doesn’t want to leave. Neither does Averillo. It’s all in the clubs hands now if they want to keep them which they aren’t stupid enough to not do that

Averillo with 66 games under his belt is now maturing into the seasoned 1st grade player a lot of us knew he’d become … him playing @ 6 with Ciraldo’s trust and with a pick and stick continued coaching mentality … I believe he would develop into one of the leagues premier attacking 6’s over the next 12/24 months ..

Have a look at the way he swept along the Titans defensive line to keep the ball alive that eventually led to Ox scoring that winning try last week … he now has the confidence to be an out and out 6 … if they let him go they’re crazy ..

Here’s our club struggling to score points and one of our most potent attacking weapons is stuck at right centre ..

It’s Ciraldo’s biggest mistake I feel …
No way Averillo is good enough or ever will be to displace Burton at 5/8. Either Averillo or Alamoti will be let go and whoever is retained will likely partner Xerri in the centres assuming that Critta will wear the No1.

Unfortunately I don't think his best position is at centre. He's just far too slow as a centre. Sure he has impressive power but I think his spot will eventually be at 2nd row....unless he goes to a team like the storm we're he will kill it at centre
Chris Mortimer was an outstanding Centre with very limited pace with D being his biggest strength. Alamoti has by far the superior skill set and his defence will no doubt improve.

I don't know why people are obsessed with Alamoti not being a sprint champion. Neither was Willie Talau and that worked out okay. Neither is Talakai or Penisini who I see Alamoti as a similar style of player to, just not as good yet..

His carries are getting tougher. He's breaking more tackles as he goes along. His defense needs work, sometimes he has shockers and other times puts on big hits and makes important cover tackles.. He can draw and pass.. He has a lot of potential. He's only 19 and is just scratching the surface. Just be patient with him and the other youngsters.
JAC is an Elite winger who relies heavily on quality ball from his centre. He rates Alamoti very highly and was quotes as saying that he has the potential to become the best centre in the game.

LMAO Alamoti is not growing any more.

I won't lose any sleep from his departure. I'll drive him to NQ

That’s a good but tough question. I think CC would be silly to continue with Burton at 7 beyond this year. To be honest I don’t quite get the logic of recruiting Oloapu in the first place when he’s clearly a 5/8. Perhaps they have hopes of developing him into a halfback. Rajab is the only player that resembles a halfback from nsw cup and the top grade and he doesn’t appear to be ready. Braydon Trindall would be a walk up start but somehow seems content languishing in nsw cup for the Sharks.

Dat SC signing... :mask:

NQ probably offering a 4 yr 2 mil contract. Atm he is worth 350k but one day will be worth double that.

Tough decision for both parties.

We SHOULDNT lose him!

Probably all hinges on the Avo signing and how much he takes. Both are good players but i would be leaning towards PA at this point.
let him go now

I’m a fan of Trindall’s I think he’d fit in perfectly, right contract, money and a guaranteed 1st grade spot I don’t see why we couldn’t get him ..

But that’s all maybe’s …

Whats wrong with Averillo at 6 and Burton at 7 with a specialist half’s coach …

We have other centres e.g Kiraz who can do what Averillo can do, what we need to do is strengthen our half’s ..

They’re both young, with the right coaching and a bit of patience they could be our half’s for years to come ..

Averillo has more to offer the team than just playing centre.

Olam isn't exactly a beach sprint champion either and he does OK.

Always a Bulldog
