Why I think we badly need a decent half.

Yeah I agree mate, theres always that doubt, however we knew Baz was a disaster from the job he did at manly, there are also examples of assistants becoming head coaches and doing good jobs, look at fitzgibbon this year at sharks even, not a fan of green, would like woolf or flanno
Fitzgibbon at least was learning from the best coach in the land in Bellamy. We have to get this coaching choice right, get it wrong and it sets us further back

Lol I read it, bro. Already commented. This place is just off its head. I’m not worried, though. No chance I get dropped. I’m in the teen for the remainder of the year unless I get injured. All the whining in the world won’t change that.

If wakeham was playing yesterday averillo would have score 4 tries in total...at least on 3 occassions he could have passed to avo on the sweep and with an overlap but chose waddell instead ...wakeham would have nailed it and lets not forget wakeham and rfm combo as well with wakeham putting him through on many occassions in the past
I think you’re confusing Wakeham with Foran. Foran and RFM had a good combo going in 2020 season

He is growing with confidence
I agree it’s all about confidence with Flanagan. I think he needs to bulk up a bit in off season. I saw a huge difference in Nathan Cleary who did exactly the same thing. Also look at JT when he first played for us, he was small. He bulked up over his time at the cowboys. I really think we may get stuck - where he’s our only option for next year. I think he’s been a lot better since his time away from the first grade. He’s not perfect, but I think he’s getting better with time, but needs to work on upper body strength. One of the tigers didn’t have any respect and gave him a good push. If he works on upper strength he won’t have to put up with shit like that, that will also build his confidence in attack.

Gus has already decided who he WANTS to be in the 7 next year and when the time is right he will share this with us, assuming that he gets who he wants (which he usually does). Until then we to do our best with Flanno.
How do you know he has for the number 7. Did I miss something?

Flanagan is the best HB at the club by a country mile

Unless Cleary or Munster(not a traditional 7 anyways) come off contract, Flanagan will be the #7 up until his contract is up

It's up to the club if they renew Flanagan or bring in Hayward, if he develops to the level required
BBO is coming along very nicely in reserves.

Last two weeks have been really good.

He has all the physical tools required for the position.

Needs time as most halves do.

BBO is playing a lot more controlled and that's pretty much what he needs to nail if he wants a shot playing halfback moving forward.

Loved his game yesterday.

Chances were presenting themselves almost every play, but he managed to played with control.

Very impressed.

Of all the pups coming through recently, Kiraz & Schoupp have been great.

Averillo is doing well at FB, and should only get better as he plays more games there along with a full off season at FB and hopefully a specialist FB coach

Hopefully Topine & Morrin cement spots in the 17 next season

BBO is heavily overrated here and is a jack of all trades...

Only HB who looks good and who is promising in the lower grades is Hayward

We have been through this over and over and over with experimental HB's through the years - Mbye, Averillo, Wakeham and BBO....It works in very rare cases, though these players haven't got it upstairs to successfully transition and lead a team around.

Hopefully Hayward comes up with the goods in a few years.

Drinkwater had a similar problems previously, was very good but at the same time extremely erratic and would go for those all or nothing plays far too often. Drinkwater was top tier when he was coming through though, was selected in rep teams at halfback ahead of Cleary.

Adam obrien had the same career path as Fitzgibbon. Under Bellamy and Robinson. You just never know who is going to be a gun coach.

It’s why I like Flanagan. He kept teams in contention each year.

I agree he’s better but last time he got a go in FG halves he froze up and didn’t really inject himself. Idk if it’s worth the gamble right now while were playing well, never know if it would piss off burton or the rest of the spine to dump Flanno now

I think the More time he plays 7 in cup the better, when the time comes for him to step up he will be able to hold the spot
