Who is our long term fullback?

Taaffe not good enough for 1st grade.
He was having a great game against the Roosters before Dom Young knocked his head off!

I suppose the interesting thing with Taffe is we never had the chance to see him with Sexton at HB because in the early parts of the season we had Hutch there... AND if he finishes that Roosters game the way he started it Tracey may never have got a look in.

One of those sliding doors moments

Tracey more than solid and very good value, we need a halfback.
We need both.
HB, FB then middles.

So many on here want us to dominate the opposition. And so they think we need forwards ahead of anything else.

I dont. I just want to win games. Finals games. And so focus should be spine first and forwards second.

We will always differ in this Marki. I have always believed buying some decent to top line middles are better than buying one half or fullback for double the price.

There are very few halves or fullbacks that would be worth the price for us. Unless of course it was an older type on a one or two year deal. Hunt or Gutho for example could make us better and be valuable in the future for the coaching staff. But signing a top line middle could make us better for a longer period. Unfortunately we missed out on Stephano and AFB for the same price we could get one if the other two.

My reasoning however has always been that it’s easier to sign middles than halves and fullbacks. And rarely have I seen teams win comps from buying halves or fullbacks. It’s always better to develop them. That’s the Penrith and Storm system.

Clearly you have not watched him defend

You mean he's positioning? Seems to be solid under the high ball and always makes metres on his kick returns. As a last line of defense, Paps and Reece Walsh are no better. Only Teddy and Edward's are the stand out.

2020 storm win with papi and hughes
2019 roosters win with teddy, cronk, keary
2018 roosters win with teddy, cronk, keary
2016 sharks win with barba, graham
2015 cowboys win with JT, coote
2014 souths win with GI

very rarely see teams win comps after buying halves or fullbacks hey?

Earlier in the year Sporting News put out a power ranking of the top 17 best fullbacks in the NRL and Tracey didn't even make the top 17!

It went something like this:

17. Will Kennedy (off contract)
16. Keano Kini
15. Tyrell Sloan
14. Clint Gutherson (off contract)
13. Jahream Bula
12. AJ Brimson
11. Ryan Papenhuyzen
10. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (off contract)
9. Latrell Mitchell
8. Joseph Manu
7. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow
6. Scott Drinkwater
5. Tom Trbojevic
4. James Tedesco (off contract)
3. Kalyn Ponga
2. Reece Walsh (off contract)
1. Dylan Edwards

Personally I'd take Connor Tracey over half these guys like Charnze, Kennedy, Bula, Sloan, Kini etc etc

And we won comps with Lamb, Anasta, Patten & Silva who we bought from other teams.

We need a top FB because Tracey is not it. Too many structural flaws in his game that cannot be fixed at his age. Injury prone too.

He's ok if we need to protect SC funds for other positions and tread water in positions 6-12th in the next few years.

But you dont win premierships with guys like Tracey at FB. He's an opposition coaches dream to play in a GF at FB. They'd pick him like a snot.
You have some."special" takes on some of our players, i have noticed same for a while now..

This is not meant as a compliment btw :tearsofjoy:

I'd don't know how many of you watched the semi final but Connor Tracey was one of our best? His work rate was unbelievable, you don't fix something that isn't broken! We shouldn't buy anyone, we put blake Wilson of ADC leaves, we've added a bit of bite to our pack with sitili ,amone
And underhill coming through. I'd say if we were going to buy anyone it would be ben hunt but I'm content with sexton ATM, we should wait until there's an absoloute game changer kind of player because we ain't going to get Walsh ,tedesco or pappy. Swapping Tracey for gutho would be the worst thing to do. Reward good players by sacking them and putting someone else in? That's how morale In a club quickly fades away!
