Actually I withdraw my last comments and although I was thinking it way before anyone else posted it - I've been thinking it since 2002 when I lived there and hated NFL - I must give props to fatal 1 as he was the first to post it

Interesting thoery, but i tend to disagree, Im sure there IS an element of money involved ... but the australians really DID look unenthusiastic......hmmmmm...... well a few people in the Broncos forums mentioned this 'thory' as well........ interesting....and since Bennet wants to increase the level of international league..... this 'theory' could be true.

Who else thinks that Australia "struggled" on purpose, to attract more fans in the USA which leads to more money?

i reckon they did..watching the game australia didnt do anything.. they let usa run over them. however, i dont think australia thought theyd run over them that much.. meaning i believe while australia did throw the game and america didnt really do that well.. america if they go away for 10 years and come back might have a realistic shot at maybe beating australia.. they have advanced far.

Lets Clarify the whole matter for everyone....

The Australians did take it easy on them, and it was I(!) who told Wayne Bennett FIRST to do it!

Thus the credit goes to me....

of course but its like trying to sell a roosters jumper to a doggies fan... not going to happen.. it wont generate enough interest in the us to become mainstream...well not for another few years at least...

and americans when it comes to sport can be arrogant (dc im not trying to offend you) so what better way to feed that ego by letting the aussies struggle against a team that has little in comparison to the world champs

england lost :p
And to think... they had wales, scotland and the home ground advantage to help them out.

I wouldn't say the game was 'rigged' but i'm sure that the guys made no secret of the fact that they didn't fly over there to "teach em a lesson". The aussies wouldn't have deliberately thrown intercept passes and fallen off tackles but the intensity and game plan would of been very, very different to one they would adopt in a real test match. Not to mention the fact they had just finished a long season, been on the piss since sunday night and just got of an airplane.

The fact is that they played a less then convincing win over a side whos only been playing for 20 years and last time I saw them, they got thrashed by the Wyong Roos.

The Tri-Nations loss still hurts doesn't it MrC? :grinning:

Seriously though, if Australia had of wanted to they could have won the game 120-0. This would have made a farce of the whole thing so they were told to go out and have a bit of fun with it.

When the time came to ensure the win they did so.

Funny only 1 rooster player played on that concrete that they call astro-turf! Funny how only Bulldog players got injured.

we all know i came up with that theory :p :p

hahah..mehh australia just played like they didnt really care, well, they thought the t-hawks were gonna be pushovers and underestimated the t-hawks in the first half. to save embarassment, they began playing like a real team in the second. just my opinion anyways.
