I have every season of every show he has made on a USB which I always take with me when I'm in hospital and rewatch them, never get bored of them.
Love the shows but I can't help but feel a little sad when rewatching them. I'm not one who watches many food and travel shows, but I could binge watch his shows.

Laos in 2003 was a bit of an issue with getting money from ATM's. They had credit card facilities. But I had no credit card. Probably changed since then. But had to use the Australian embassy to get $100 to cross back into Thailand because I couldn't withdraw cash. Felt super rich there with a big was of local dollars, but it was a bit of a situation where the big wad of notes was enough to buy a packet of Mentos. Recommend taking a tube down the river at Luang prabang if you make it to Laos. Something very relaxing about floating in a tyre tube from beer vendor to beer vendor.

Vietnam wasn't my favourite part of the trip. War tours were interesting. But my favourite day there was in a town that specialises in stonework. Bought a nice handmade chess set there that I've never used. Can't recall the name of the place. But on one beach stop I paid about an Australian dollar for two plate sized crabs with some kind of spicy dipping sauce.

If you get to Vietnam don't miss out on visiting Cambodia. Angkor way is amazing and s21 prison and a tour of Siem reap are solemn experiences but are a sad reminder that humans are a c*** of a species.
I remember these same things in 2006. Sadly, 8 don't think the tubing exists anymore. Too many injuries and deaths from drunk idiots trying to do backflips out of trees and off ropes.

I'm glad you got to try it. It's a really great way to spend an afternoon. It's not surprising that idiocy ruined it for future generations. There were plenty of people doing flips and things the day I was there.

Yeah it was fucking awesome hey!! I remember the only place open for a drink after 10pm in Luang Prabang was the bowling alley. It was literally a bowling alley. Lol

I didn't see the bowling alley unfortunately. About the only thing I recall from Luang Prabang was the tubing, magic pizza and walking the length of the place looking for somewhere to withdraw money. I think there were two places you could use a credit card that I found. But drinking at a bowling alley is very much my idea of time wisely spent.

Me and my mate left on the night bus when it became clear that there was nowhere to get money out. The day bus was the tourist route generally while the night bus was cheap and mostly the one tourists used. The night bus was absolutely packed with people and a crate of chickens. But I almost shat myself when the bus stopped and let two guards with AK47's on board. My first sleep addled thought was that it was being robbed by bandits. My mate slept through the whole fucking lot.

Tubing was in Vang Vieng. But yeah, both beautiful places. Super chilled out. I remember, or more accurately, forgot, drink too much Laos Laos. A friend drank so much he was spewing up blood the next day. Little did I know back then, the miniscule difference in temp in distilling spirits can be enough to kill someone. Living the dream they said. Haha.
I flew to Pnom Penh after Laos. That place shook my core.

Angkor Wat..wow! My Homecare lady came from Cambodia, she had to flee the Pol Pot regime. Her family lost their restaurant business..lost her father to sickness because of the lack of health care..her younger sister to being hit with the butt of a rifle by a soldier as she was too sick to work in the field..she lost her Mum as they were fleeing Cambodia. Yes she was trying to pay some guy to move them quicker up the line at Red Cross camp..she went off to do it, but they never saw her again. Tragic story. She finally made it back there with her sisters after years of living here..a somber return.

Were you halfway through?
Fortunately not. Had a fairly obvious looking ladyboy following me around Ko Samui on a scooter shouting prices while I was just cruising around near the beach. And while the prices were almost too good to pass up, I'm perfectly willing to let some deals go even if I'll never see prices like that again. I mean I wouldn't buy a packet of tampons even if the price was incredibly good.

My mate on the other hand was trashed at about 7pm one night. Me and an english girl that was hanging around with me looked at this "girl" he bought to where we were on the beach. Twigged to both of us almost instantly that the adams apple was prominant and he/she/it also had fairly big shoulderspan to go with a nice set of tits and a prettyish face for a ladyboy. Mate was too trashed to notice. I still feel a bit guilty that me and the english girl didn't let him in on what we'd noticed for quite a while. It's pretty funny to watch a mate trying to put the moves on a ladyboy for about an hour. He sat there with an arm around her/he/it for about 45 minutes. My conscience got the better of me when he started fondling a boob and kissing her/him/it on the top of the head. I interrupted his fondling and told him to come grab a beer with me, after a brief argument that he was busy he followed and I pointed out my suspicions. We wnet back to the beach where he sat next to it again for a few moments, quickly felt the adams apple and then started telling me about this made up friend we were supposed to meet "RIGHT NOW". Fucking hilarious.

I'm pretty poor with the memory of place names. There was another place I really liked near Pai who's name I can't recall, the big drawcard was that it felt less touristy at the time than many of the places I'd been to already. In part I'm going to blame the copious amounts of really cheap pot and alcohol I consumed during those three months for not remembering place names. But in part it was because I saw a hell of a lot of places while there too. I don't recall trying the Laos Laos, tried snake wine in a few places but I didn't get sick at all while I was there. I was pretty careful to follow the advice to only eat at busy street food stalls even if it meant waiting longer to get food. My mate spent three days on the toilet and one in hospital because he always tried to avoid waiting for food by going to dicey vendors.

It's a pity that they didn't have facilities to get money as I'd have liked to spend a bit more time in Laos. It was nice to actually be somewhere that hadn't been developed into such a massive tourist hub already. We left Cambodia till too late in the trip to see as much as I'd have liked as well. would like to have gotten a three day pass to Angkor wat to see some of the lesser visited temples if I'd planned anything at all. But seeing some of the war remnants in Cambodia was sobering after living a party existence for the best part of three months. It's quite an eye opener to walk through a room full of photos of people that died based on the fact that they were intelligent and potentially a threat to pol pot.
