I've just started using a DE razor....

And I'm wondering, why people stopped using these things ?
Gives me the best shave I've ever had (shaving with the grain feels like a shave against the grain with my old Mach 3)
No irritation due to the instrument-like sharpness of the blade.
Has 2 edges that last 4-5 shaves (head and face)
Costs about 30c/blade.

What do you use and why ?

I use a straight blade, well I think that's what it's called lol. I hardly shave though and normally only use it for cleaning up my neck. Did shave my beard recently for the first time in months and I looked like a baby haha

I use a shavette, basically a straight razor that uses disposable blades, I moved to this after using a straight razor. It's important to get a good brush and shave soap

Nice shave set mate. I agree 100% with you. The " old" safety razors which are gaining popularity again give you a closer smoother shave. I started wet shaving 1 year ago and it was the best decision I made.
Some of the " old" aftershaves also that have soothing qualities and smell nice are a pleasant surprise also.

I'm thinking of changing to something like that
I'm a Mach 4 user at the moment
Replacement blades cost a fortune

Can I ask
Where do you get those more traditional set ups from?

eBay, is the easiest way, as shaving with this kind of stuff is much more common in Europe.
Mine is a merkur. Very common overseas, excellent quality.
But you can get the blades easily enough at the shaver shop. $3 for a pack of 5 astras (that's 10 edges that last about 5 shaves each) rediculously cheap.
