Why announce the head coach 3 years out lol
this is a tim sheens thing, he wants to sneak back into coaching and has to sell it a different way to appease the fans, he is hoping to do well and then be the west tigers coaching version of batman with the batsignal ready to come back in and save them when benji fails

west tigers still hung up over 2005 and think it was a real premiership, they are the dumbest club of all time and fully deserve their situation, the only good thing to happen to that club was steve folkes going there as an assistant for a couple of years but they were again too dumb to realise what was happening and got rid of him to appease sheens, from premiership favourites to they haven't made the finals since

Tigers set to sign Benji Marshall on five-year deal to succeed Tim Sheens as coach in shock move

The Wests Tigers are set to drop a massive bombshell in appointing Benji Marshall as an assistant coach on a five-year deal that will see him take over from Tim Sheens as head coach in 2025.

The Sydney Morning Heraldreported Marshall is set to ink a five-year contract that will see him work under Sheens before taking over the top job in two seasons time.

Sheens and Marshall were the driving force behind the joint venture’s first and only premiership in 2005 as player and coach and are set to reunite as coach and assistant in a bold move from Tigers powerbrokers.

Marshall has limited coaching experience having worked with the Tigers juniors in a skills capacity this season after retiring from the NRL in 2021.

Marshall played most of his 346-game NRL career at the Tigers, while Sheens, who is currently the director of football, coached the club to 128 wins from 249 games from 2003 to 2012.

The Herald revealed Marshall has agreed to a five-year deal and will work under Sheens for the next two seasons and learn his trade as an NRL head coach.

The Tigers will announce Sheens as their head coach for the next two seasons, before Marshall succeeds him in 2025.

Be very careful about criticism here. We haven't announced who's going to be wearing the coaches hat here next year yet.
Rumours it's going to be Mick Potter for 2023 with Trent Hodkinson taking over from 2024-2027

:tearsofjoy: Slopfield taking credit for this 'stroke of genius' due to a 'co-incidental' meeting at the same restaurant and how he 'keeps his word'.
Be careful not to slip on the dribble if you read this :-):

Benji to take over in 2025, Farrah in 2026 and then Farrah's ego from 2027 onwards...

Definitely showing A LOT of faith in Benchy Marshall in a very short time.

I could understand a 5yr Assistant Coach contract but not head coach within 2.

Definitely an interesting period coming up.

Sounds like a fairytale, but if it doesn't work, it will take several more years to undo.

A failed coaching appointment will set a team a lot further back than a poor recruitment decision.

Farah already talking about bringing back the West Tiger’s ‘flamboyancy’ in attack.. Same mistake as Barrett..designing a game plan before assessing what game plan suits the team and player’s skills he has..

Can't wait to see how this unfolds, if the club is still struggling in 2 years time will they really hand the control over to a dysfunctional rookie pairing of Marshall and Farah ? Not sure their fans will be happy with that, they'll also have to build from within as I find it hard to believe many established players will want to be coached by them.

Big mistake here from the news ltd dudes running this line, esp when they have been most critical of the tigers.

As Weidler said it...

Now, here is where it gets really odd. A lunch with News Corp journalists is being credited as the catalyst for the Sheens-Marshall dream team. The last time a media company – Fox Sports – worked with the club it was on the documentary Wild Wests: Tales From Tiger Town, which virtually ensured Maguire would be sacked as the club was portrayed as leaderless.

Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo knocked back Wests Tigers.

The News Corp role would be great for the Tigers: it means they will get the favourable media they have been craving as News Corp journalists can’t be too critical because it was their idea.

Imagine if Sheens flounders for two years and finds the soul-destroying task of coaching the Tigers to be too much? He might be saved from the News Corp blowtorch – as may chief executive Justin Pascoe and the board. But, if it goes well, the Tigers hierarchy can’t take credit, because it wasn’t their idea.

Precisely. So obviously dumb to be claiming credit before the boat even gets pushed out. Desperate for clicks and relevance so credibility takes a back seat…

I still cant believe Tim Sheens has pulled off getting his old job in the manner he has, and everyone celebrating the move.. He hasnt coached 1st grade since 2012 and he still has Robbie Farrah lurking in the shadows. As for Benji as coach...whats the bet half way year 2 uncle Tim says Benji needs another year or 2 apprenticiship and old mate keeps coaching..
