We are officially in the 2024 Finals!

With Cronulla winning, top four is extremely unlikely.

With 5th or 6th in the bag, I wonder if Ciraldo will rest some players.

If we win next week we lock in 5th place even if we lose the week after to cowgirls. This means we get a home final and play 8th ranked team (likely dragons).

We can also rest key players against cowgirls since it’s a dead rubber.

This would be just as good as top 4.

I’d play everyone against manly. Then rest players dealing with issues against cows

That's my prediction too. We actually won't be guaranteed 5th or 6th/home final until we win next week

Agree with all of this except top four would be better.

It depends, we play for 4th and we don’t rest players and hope we beat Melbourne in Melbourne to get a week off.

OR

We secure 5th place, rest players and pretty much secure a week 1 finals win with key players relatively refreshed with momentum going into week 2 of the finals and likely playing a battered losing team.

I’m all but convinced we will be 5-6th… no resting players this time of the year unfortunately as every game means something. Manly could end up as a loss so we will have to beat cows to stay 5-6th… I think 5th is our best chance. Fingers crossed

Forget about resting players. We don't want to lose momentum. Just get the job done every game for the next 5 weeks.

I agree the boys can rest in the off season, job not finished

If we beat Manly we can rest players against Cows. All the teams likely to be in the GF will be resting players.

Playing the 8th team unless it’s broncos on a good day is probably the best spot to be in every other game will be a war. But the top 7 teams should comfortably take care of who is 8th. The difference between 5th and 6th is huge

Depending on ladder finish.... If it finishes like the way it is now we play all our finals in Sydney. Most likely Accor and Allianz

There are so many salty opposition fans on social media trying to play us down… suck my dick you *****
Fucking disgrace isn't it. Been shit since 2016 and they hatred is deep and finals haven't even started yet. Fuck them all the putrid *****

Hey KLil can you update this mate to reflect current positions after the weekends games please :grinning:

Amazing feeling isn’t it !???!! Really can’t believe what a great year it’s been. Been a long 10+ years since feeling this good watching our boys.

2024 HAS TO BE THE YEAR OF THE DOGG, has a nice ring too it as well.

The below is a table showing how many grand final appearances and grand final wins each position has had in the NRL era with the exception of 1998 which was a ten team semi-final series.
  • 1st; 17 - 9
  • 2nd; 13 - 7
  • 3rd; 7 - 6
  • 4th; 6 - 3
  • 5th; 1 - 0
  • 6th; 3 - 0
  • 7th; 1 - 0
  • 8th; 2 - 0
They are just numbers though and there will always be a team that can make a mockery of them like the 1979 Bulldogs who became the first to make a grand final from the fifth and final spot in the old semi-final format, or the 1995 Bulldogs who became the first team to win the competition from 6th spot, or the 1998 Bulldogs who somehow made the grand final from ninth.

I don't think the Broncos are a chance but I would prefer to avoid them as I think they have one great semi-final performance left in them. It would be great to beat Manly this week as they can be very dangerous and the lower they are on the ladder, the less damage they can cause.

I know it's highly improbable but I'm holding out all hope one of the teams above us has a stumble and we win both games and squeeze into the top four.

On another note, if you had told me in August 2023 that we would be two points off second spot with two rounds to play in 2024, I would have thought you were insane.

Beat Manly then depending on results we may know that no matter what happens we finish 5th. May as well rest some players for the cows game. Tracey, Kiraz and Kiks in particular could possibly do with a rest before finals.
