I’ve been thinking and watching the nrl shows on fox at will. And with all the talk of the dogs having money for 2021 to recruit figures between 4-6 million none of which is confirmed but it’s known the club have money.

I know a lot of us supporters are a little uneasy at the inactivity in the player market at this point In time but I think the clubs done well in holding off signing anyone for a few reasons.

firstly with the pay despute the players are guaranteed 80% of there pay next year so the salary cap drops 20%,
So for example if we have 6 million originally it drops to 4.8 million it’s a speculation of course

despite that we still have a lot of money to get handy recruits I’m glad the club haven’t gone out and spent $1 million plus on a latrel or payed stupid money for a half back like Ben hunt

the nrl will be up and running and with the right moves I’m positive we can build a competitive team now we can watch the potential targets and see if they worth recruiting and it won’t be at stupid sums but offering a Addo car 600k next year will put us in a good position now .

second with all this corona virus got Europe and Asia fucked players agent won’t have the whole Japanese and French rugby offers to use a leverage to get huge dollars out of nrl clubs

but we should keep a open mind cause there will be rugby players interested in coming over to get a pay check and a good one at that as well as nrl players even if we offered 10% above what they making next year will create interest

I don’t think the major European rugby comps will run this year and maybe next year.

I think we should have a look at getting Curtis Rona back or even a semi radradra even if it’s for 1-2 years even some of the nz players.

if we had open pool of rugby talent as well as available nrl talent who should we look at ?

I don't think we will be making much of a dent in the player market. There's just not that many quality players off contract for 2021 in positions we desperately need.

It will be more stop gap options, veterans or other clubs scraps.

Our best hope will be other player movements in the NRL making contracted players become available.

As far as I know the 80% is THIS YEAR not next year.

Go Dogs
No it’s for next pay Year as well 80% of salary to each player but it was pending the broadcast input due to nine wanting to reduce funding but if there is a influx of revenue those figures could change that was the stand off with players and nrl over the % of revenue they were gonna get

True not a lot of talent for the positions we need next year but if the nrl gets up and run successfully there will be a lot of rugby players looking to get over to get paid and with us not having a major sponsor good opportunity for any company to get on board

I don't buy not signing players due to the salary cap decreasing. You just sign them on the same money you would of on the current salary cap but have a clause in there that if the salary cap decreases so will the players contract (e.g. if we signed a player on 1m, that player would get 800k if the salary cap was reduced by 20%).

We've re-signed players and there are still a couple of players I think we'll re-sign. I think we'll be more in the range of 2-3m personally. If so that would be another three to four players depending on quality. Again all the players currently contracted in our top 30 would be taking a pay cut so we'll have the same % of the salary cap remaining regardless if Coronavirus happened or not (this is every player and team in the NRL).

We have to spend 95% of our salary cap so we'll be making a dent in the player market. Unless we're planning to front load contracts (or sign finished mercenaries for one year on massive money) and waste another year.

There's no point in having a war chest if you spend it on a bunch of Army Reserves and rejects...

We need to recruit Special Ops type legitimate talent that other clubs don't just leave on the scrapheap..

We need to recruit the best players available that other clubs don't want to lose. The type of players that can take the club to the next level and help entice other talent to join.

They have a great opportunity to make the club a force again. If they squander it we'll just have to rebuild all over again.

If the salary cap for 2021 is reduced then all clubs will be in the same predicament.
If for example we have 2.5 million to spend and the cap is reduced by 20% then we now have 2 million.
Whats important is that we bring in the right players for the right positions.
We need a mix of experience and youth.
Of the current off contract players I'd like to see us sign:
Jake Friend, Christian Welch, Nick Cotric, Fanitesi Niu, Jamil Hopoate and Tristan Sailor.
Re-sign - Elliott, RFM, Foran, Wakeham.
Cut - Cogger, Holland, Montoya, Sue, Tolman
Leaves 3 top 30 spots for players like Tass and Harper.

There would not be a player agent worth their salt that would advise their client to sign a contract to say if revenue decreases their salary automatically decreases by that percentage. If that player is the best player in your club they will argue their worth to the team and try and to limit the damage to the player and their pocket even if this is the most fair way to do it. . E.g Willie Mason 2002 when everyone was asked to take a pay cut approx 10% he asked for a pay rise as he just had a break out season. I don’t know where they ended up but they wouldn’t agree to an auto decrease. Just wouldn’t happen.

id be going after albert hopoate, we're light on backs with x factor and hes on the cusp of first grade. had a few injuries but is a weapon when hes on. Could get will in his ear and possibly get him on the cheaper side now before he's an established first grader

You’ve got the right idea
To seriously become contenders we need 5 crucial signings
We need a big body to eat the metres & bend the line. J Tamou/Rhys Kennedy/C Welch or ideally Alex Walmsley.
*Absolute must#Hooker J FRIEND would be the choice or Cam McInnes
Half:- Jackson Hastings ( good organiser & goalkicker). Man of Steel 2019 season
Point scoring outside backs:- N Cotric, Hopoate brothers, Tesi Niu
A good utility with genuine speed in Connor Watson

I say if they get a decent revenue in the game again they will increase the cap to the full amount it was to cover the losses for this season with no crowds I’m sure if they go for any players they will offer full amount or put a ratchet clause in the contract if the cap returns to usual amount or increases

All teams will be in the same boat having to take a cut but of who’s available we can offer them a good contract to entice over but they have to be strategic signings

I like the idea of signing j Hastings guys a waste over in England
Same as crotric worth the punt even Watson as a 14 genuine utility Player and already with Thompson a decent prop will be good too to partner Thompson even Addo Carr finishing specialist

1. Niu / Meaney / Sailor
2. Smith / Meaney / Crighton / Tass
3. Cotric / Averillo / Harper
4. Hoppa
5. DWZ
6. Wakeham
7. Foran / Sailor / Averillo / Lewis
8. Thompson
9. Friend / Katoa/ JMK
10. To'omaga
11. Jackson
12. Britt / Hoppa 2 / Stimson
13. Welch
14. Averillo / Sailor / JMK
15. RFM
16. Napa
17. Elliott / Ogden / C Smith

It'd be the best 17 we've had in years, decent depth, promising youngsters, hard heads like Jackson, Friend and Thompson...

I think your brain is missing something. The % of the salary cap that he's on is all that matters. If he signs a contract where he's on more than anyone else in the squad he'll still be the highest paid afterwards too. It'll be exactly the same just relative to a new salary cap. A pay cut will be across the board for every team and player.
