I've never been a big fan of multi-vitamins, mineral supplements etc.

I've always been a believer of getting all the nutrients my body needs naturally. So eating the right foods, and getting outdoors for some vitamin D (tehe).

And also I'm a of the opinion that if you're taking supplements then there's no need for your body to continue to produce them naturally, and it will stop doing so, and your body will become dependent on them.

But lately I've had a lot of muscle tightness, cramping and soreness from exercising and training. And a few people have recommended I take magnesium to help with relaxing my muscles and also for recovery.

I've been taking them for 2 days now (1 tablet a day) and already feel much better!

Apparently there are many benefits to taking magnesium. I feel like I've been missing out all this time.

Also when I was buying I noticed the ridiculous amount of supplement's there are! Zinc, garlic, echinacea (I don't even know what this is fss)

Does anyone else take any supplements for whatever reason?

I also recently bought some zeolite to add to my shakes.

has anyone tried this stuff?

It's meant to detox the body by removing heavy metals such mercury, and toxins from your body. It's also meant to help balance your bodies PH level.

I took it for about 2 weeks and didn't really notice any difference.

So I came to the conclusion that i'm already super cleansed, toxin free with perfectly balance PH level :b

shark cartilage to help my joints mobility.

If i dont get involved in heavy lifting or sports my joints (knees) stay pain free but in order to do keep my sport and fitness routine i need to lessen the wear on my joints.

so far so good.

I did take a multi but I stopped knowing it was all synthesised, I'm trying to find a natural green multi to take as I am in the same boat as you on food, supps and protein.

I'm finding it a little hard to find natural supps I can trust and don't want to go back to the synthesised crap because the amount of people getting sick, developing cancer and etc here is scaring me because it is all starting to be linked to food and things we consume.

Most vitamin supplements are near useless. Magnesium is still useful though. One of the reasons for that is that you don't get a whole lot of magnesium in your diet and as a supplement, Magnesium is pretty effective.

Other Vitamin supplements have little to no effect. Calcium for example has a minor effect but can cause other health problems as oppose to using other sources of calcium (Green leafy vegetables being the best). Calcium also doesn't have a great effect overall on adults. It's a requirement for growing children but calcium has barely any effect on adults. If you want to strengthen your bones then best way to do it is by getting plenty of exercise.

Vitamin C supplement is the big scam one. It does pretty much nothing at all. There is some evidence suggesting that it may reduce the length of a cold if you take it well before you get a cold but that's yet to be confirmed and is most likely a placebo effect and it does nothing at all if you already have a cold.

Multivitamins are a scam one too. The main reason being that if you have a healthy diet then your body isn't going to absorb it anyway, and people are usually low on a single type of Vitamin, not a multitude of Vitamins.

Best way to think of it is if you get a blood test and your doctor says that you're low of a type of Vitamin then taking that Vitamin may help, but you're better off getting it from natural sources. If you aren't low on a Vitamin and you take it, your body doesn't really stock up the Vitamins for a rainy day, instead it just dumps it all out which means you're spending a lot of money for expensive piss.

Basically as you initially said. Vitamin Supplements are pretty useless to the most part with some very rare exceptions (Like Magnesium and Iron, but only if you need it)

It's great for detoxing your wallet.

I was reading a story written by a Doctor on these fads who said it well. "Your liver detox's your body. If you do have toxins building up in your body then you'll know by the fact that you're either dead or on dialysis"

Basically toxins don't building up in the body. The liver takes care of them. The body also has a great way of keeping your body balanced for pH levels. You have a certain pH range (7.35 - 7.45 pH) that your body maintains through respiration and urination. Any higher or lower than this range and you'll be on your death bed.

There's only certain things that can build up in your body at unhealthy levels that the body can't regulate. Basically fat.

Eat lots of veggies, get plenty of sun, eat plenty of fruits. Best way to do it.

Just find out what you need more of then look for the best natural source of it that you can find.

Majority of multivitamins/off the shelf supps are great ways to have expensive piss.

Clean diet, plenty of exercise, lots of water - little junk/bad shit > anything in a pill form.

Unless those pills are dbols.

Does mixing ecstasy and Viagra count?

But seriously, vitamins in pill or shake form are mostly just expensive wee.... although I do take an Aldi brand berocca when hungover. It seems to pick me up for some reason, but just makes expensive week...

BTW, "detox" is a fallacy. Any nutritionist or doctor worth their salt will tell you that. Unless you are seriously abusing yourself, the human body is amazing at keeping itself clean.

I think if you are under, say, 50, and don't have any health problems, and are eating ok, you don't need supplements. A simple blood test will tell you if you are genuinely deficient.

Is that the Chinese one where they put heated up jars on your back, and they kind of suck your skin?

Because i'm too scared to google "cupping" otherwise...

chinese /middle eastern thingy.

they put cups on your back, neck, head and somehow it slowly sucks 'dirty blood' out.

once you do a session you feel like 20 again.

I've had that done by a Chinese bird in Chermside of all places.... not sure about detox, but my back actually felt much looser.
