The world's fastest man ran the world's fastest race on the biggest stage available in Berlin last night, smashing his own world record with a time of 9.58 seconds. Afterwards he said he was not in the best possible shape and believed he could go faster. It is a thought that would terrify those who spend their life chasing him. How fast could he go?

"I always say anything is possible," he said.

Many had wondered whether the Jamaican could possibly top his performance in Beijing when he won gold - despite celebrating mid-race - with a world record time of 9.69. This win was utterly different but equally memorable.

In part it was different because he was pushed. Unlike in Beijing, two rivals showed up in blistering form. Some had wondered during the week whether Tyson Gay might even win, as the American had the fastest time of the year.

Bolt obliterated it, dominating one of the fastest finals of all time. Six athletes broke 10 seconds. None got near him.
