And here we go - let the carnage begin.

SCOTUS just ruled (6-3) that state courts do not have the power to block executive orders with injunctions. So basically the order is followed until its proven illegal. Which now means TPT can just appeal and appeal and appeal and the order cannot be stopped.

And what was the example? Birthright citizenship.

One step closer to civil war.

No idea. But here's the gist now.

Have to open your electronics for review. No set criteria on what justifies deportation. Have to set all social media for the last 5 years to public for review. I believe there are plans now for the visa application to not only report your own criminal history, but also the criminal history of relatives and friends and their history is grounds for exclusion.

And if u get deported - you have 2 choices. You can pay for your own flight back but wait in an ICE detention facility until the flight is available. Or you can get the US to deport you. Not only can the US send you to any country they choose but they'll charge you and you are auto barred from return for 5 years. But I reckon that 5 years may as well be eternity under the current admin.

Did I mention you now have to show your passport to fly domestically over there?

All this and people there are ok with it? What kind of messed up place has it become? Goes to show what can happen to humans when fear becomes by far the main driver.

Well, sure tourism operators aren't happy with it. And don't think is about fear - this is about control. TPT basically is creating a narrative that if you don't have Daddy taking control, bad things are going to happen. While Daddy does bad things.

Its what all pollies do to some degree. Create an 'enemy' to divert attention from their own performance. But there are scales. You have Lib vs Labor in Oz and the scare mongering at one end. You have Rocket Man in North Korea at the other. Becoming fairly obvious where on the scale TPT is positioning himself.

Control is only possible when you can create fear. Fear creation is harder than it seems. It isn't hard to create fear in a moment, but it is difficult to make it last, humans generally don't like to be fearful. Rocketman has the benefit of the way the absolutely atrocious circumstances of a war from 75 years ago have been deeply imbedded into social consciousness there. TPT and crew can't do what they are doing now (where did they find enough heartless thugs to man ICE, for example) without taking advantage of something latent within that society.

If people don't want to think, fear is easy. Its what you do with that fear thats important. There was a point in the 1950's that the Soviets and the Chinese recognised North Korea as being run by crackpots that even worried them, North Korea evicted them and basically went it alone for a while. They viewed the Chinese and Russia version of communism as to 'light on'. And North Korea had already showed people want dissent looks like at that stage (Jeju islands) so that was it - end game.

The Federalist Society is the key driver for the US atm. And when they started 20+ years ago the agenda was simple. Set up a political system in the US where the Executive had absolute power by owning the other 2 arms of government. They own SCOTUS. They own Congress now but one of the things that SCOTUS also ruled on yesterday was States can redistrict as they want. This was from a Louisiana case where black areas that are likely to vote democrat were grouped together and white areas that are likely to vote republican were split, creating more red seats. So the net result is more seats for republicans. And just to make this ruling even more fun, they ruled that the final 'districts' can be decided on later this year, after the next local elections. So they've given this state the power to effectively game their own elections and you can bet your ass that other states will follow suit. Wonder where (when?) the US end game is going to be.

As for ICE - there is a theory floating around atm that a fair chunk of ICE are not even govt. They're 'Proud Boys' and the like. Take that as you will.

It is, add to that scenario the control of information, Big Brother style effects, C of P (was it Rocketman or one of his forebears that scored a perfect game the first time he picked up a bowling ball?) and the weird stuff is sure to follow.

But the US has been a giant in independent thought for basically all of modern history. It is still packed with people who engage with critical thought on the reg. Goes to show that true freedom in a society is indeed a fragile thing.
