Pretty much, but there's a bit more complexity to it.
Iran signed the Nuclear Proliferation Agreement. That basically means that the UN (or more aptly, the International Atomic Energy Agency) can inspect their nuclear capabilities at any time to determine if they are developing Nukes and if they are, they can demand they stop it. Iran stopped letting the IAEA inspect the weapons. That forced the IAEA and the UN to use covert intel to find out what's happening.
The UN reported that Iran has enriched Uranium to 60% capacity. This is likely why the shit hit the fan. Israel has been saying for decades that Iran is "days away" from developing nukes. To have a decent amount of nukes you need 90% enriched Uranium, but you can still do it with 60% enriched Uranium. It's just harder to do. From a discussion I heard with an ex-IAEA boss on ABC this morning, with 60% enriched Uranium Iran could make 1 nuke in approximately 1 month. Then they could keep producing 1 nuke per month.
So there is some valid concern there especially considering that Iran has stated that their goal is to wipe out Israel.
But there's also other layers to keep in mind. Like how Iran was dismantling their nuclear program after Obama negotiated a deal with them, then when Trump won in 2016 he pulled out of the deal and that's what lead to Iran enriching Uranium again.
Also keep in mind that while Iran signed the Nuclear Proliferation Agreement, Israel didn't. So Israel can develop nukes all they want and there's nothing anyone can do about it. If Israel focuses on developing nukes (or has already developed them), and they take out Iran's nuclear capability then they can hold the whole Middle East hostage.
