My "onya" for today goes to Hokko (from news.com.au):

NRL star Trent Hodkinson escorts terminally ill girl Hannah to her school formal

TRENT Hodkinson, take a bow.

The Newcastle Knights playmaker may not have had the greatest season, having been dropped from first grade for a large part of the year, but he has easily won the feel-good story of 2017.

On Wednesday night, Hodkinson escorted Hannah, a massive Knights fan, to her school formal.

Her school, Kurri Kurri High, brought the formal forward from the end of the year to the middle of July because Hannah has terminal Ewing sarcoma — a cancer found in the bones or soft tissue.

The NRL star rode in the back seat with Hannah on the way to the formal, held her hand as she walked in and even cut a cake at the event in front of everyone else in her year.

Scandal is never too far from rugby league, so it’s worth noting the great things the code does.

As we say, Trent, take a bow.

Geez our site absolutely cannot handle embedded Tweets in articles, should look better now.

Trent you are an absolute champion. Take a massive bow. This poor girl is going through absolute hell everyday and you made her ridiculously happy just by donating some of your own time. Almost tearing up just writing this, I absolutely hate that kids have to go through stuff like this, it is not fair.

Heard this on the radio whilst driving home from taking my children to their bus for school and actually had to pull over to compose myself.

Trent is someone who has ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS gone out of his way to make a point of trying to shine at least a little bit of light on those doing it tough and facing the inevitable end of life sooner than they should have to. He has done it for years; from putting names on his kicking tees, visiting those who are ill; he is truly a champion.

He is the true epitome of a decent human being; he does not seek publicity nor a pat on the back for doing something that he only thinks of as making a difference in their lives. Goodness knows we could do with a lot more like him.He is a humble young man and truth be told would probably be a touch embarrassed by the attention.

Full credit too to this young ladies school who made a super effort to allow her to fulfill this dream. This was simply a meeting with her idol, a last wish, but to her, well it would have meant everything. Such a beautiful smile, such a beautiful girl.

Makes me so damn cranky at those in the game who constantly give others in it a bad name.

Hannah, I hope that the night was all you dreamed it to be and I send you nothing but my very best for whatever time you have left. I have kids and it is so unfair that the young ones suffer as much as they do. God bless.

What an amazing effort Trent. Having met Trent a couple of times this does not surprise me in the slightest, he is always putting others first.

Top footballer, shit knees.

I don't know about top footballer.....but he is definitely a top bloke....and was a handy player when fit, so I will definitely agree with most of that sentiment.

Genuine person and humble bloke. Well done Trent. This world would be a better place if it had more people like you.

I hope Hannah is holding up well. xx
