TPJ has missed around 6 weeks if include preseason games with a calf injury and has been reported he has a chronic back injury.
If we have made a call to throw him in the middle and will require him to dramatically increase his work rate don’t like his chances of getting thru a season.
He did fekk all last year and couldn’t stay on the park.
Shame as he is a genuine talent.

I think Thommo has him covered for effort. Junior might have the talent but something in his body is the size of a pea and I doubt it’s fixable…
I can see why the chased Thommo, he was a beast in ESL. I promise you we haven't even seen 60% of his potential.

Problem is he is never on the field to show non-ESL watchers.

The deal with Hoffman for BBO's top30 spot was done just before Thommo got injured.
But TPJ Hughes and Patolo were already injured. I think the only back injured was Casey plus our outside back stocks already looked healthier.

I watched plenty of him over there and he was a star in a different style of game. I still don’t think any coach here has used him to his potential.

An off the back fence style of forward is the opposite of his support style running good angles game he played in the SL.

I gotta say I get that, however they throw coaches out, & are allowed to replace them, when they have extended periods of non or low performance irrespective of potential or past results. The game is all about results……now & at most, over the last season or so. Both TPJ & Thommo are major talents but unfortunately, they are both just too injury prone at the more challenging level of NRL. It’s tough, but they just don’t deliver value for their big money. Like TBaz, will soon be time to say bye bye.

Gould just discussed TPJs injury on 100%, footy.

He's a had a career long reoccurring calf injury which happened on 2 occasions during pre-season.
Have specialists working with him so it doesn't occur again and won't be rushed back. Pressed on a rumoured round 8 return Gus said he doesn't know how long it will take.

5 front row forwards out of our top 30 which doesn't look like changing anytime soon apparently. So maybe no Pele next week either.
Playing undermanned is burning out King and Sutton Gus acknowledged as much.

My hope is Hoffman was put in the Top 30 to become a potential trade option because it's only a matter of time before we get monstered again by a bigger stronger pack like Manly

I still think TPJ's calf issue is really a back issue..

He played off the back of Walmsley, have him playing off NAS would unlock him

Would not suprise me. Gould using the career long phrase might be a clue to that. TPJ confessed to suffering back problems his whole career in one of the kennel episodes I'm sure.

Would not suprise if he has suffered calf injuries as a result of his back problems aswell.

We saw a bit in that match against the sharks in 2021 when Thompson got the ball on the front foot and managed to use his footwork and speed to bounce off defenders and set up Averillo. I honestly believe our current playing style this year would really suit him.

Yes agree. This happens to bowlers in cricket a lot. They have persistent hamstring or calf injuries, stemming from back injuries. I spoke to the physio who treated Pat Cummins and he said that once his back injuries largely resolved then various other issues in hammies and calf’s also disappeared.

Retired NRL and fringe first graders dominate in the ESL bro. Thommo puts in but doesn’t have the skill or size for NRL. TPJ, has the talent but is injured far too often. Will be difficult to move on an injury prone player, so it’s probably best to not rush him back and see if we can get him back to his best. We are a so short in the middle, is that young Fijian lad we got a chance? Haven’t seen much of him

Don't think he is top 30 at this stage?

Isn't Thommo bigger than Graham?

Graham on a bad day is still better that Thommo on a good day.

Is he? Thommo and Graham don’t belong in the same sentence uce! Graham tough, skillfil and a leader. Thommo none of these things. I think Thommo got his big contract because of the success of Graham and the kernel also gives him more latitude than any other overpaid flop because we wanted another British bulldog, but got a fkn chihuahua
