The NRL is in that stage right now where the stars of the past decade are starting to fade out such as JT and Slater and we are seeing the rise of talented youngsters such as Holmes and Munster, but if we were to compile a top 5 list right now who would make it?, will be interesting to see the kennels opinions.

Players to keep in mind:
- Cameron Smith
- Cameron Munster
- Billy Slater
- James Tedesco
- Cooper Cronk
- Damien Cook
- Valentine Holmes
- James Maloney
- Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
- Jason Taulmalalo
- Michael Morgan
- Kalyn Ponga

Slater is retiring, rule him out.
Smith retiring either this year or within 3 I reckon.
Cronk the same (NRL Physio saying if its a grade 3 rotator cuff tear he's looking at 4-6 months recovery post surgery).

Maybe Smith and Cronk should have a bet "whoever wins grand final retires".

I don't really see any standouts coming through at the moment. Lots of overrated or inconsistent players though.

Damien Cook was almost invisible this weekend. Bad coaching or the occasion got to him?

Yeah making a top 5 list right now seems underwhelming to be honest, compare it to 5 years ago and look at the difference in the quality of player.

2018 (In my opinion):
1. Cam Smith
2. James Tedesco
3. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
4. Jason Taulmalalo
5. Cameron Munster/Val Holmes

2013:
1. Johnathan Thurston
2. Cameron Smith
3. Billy Slater
4. Cooper Cronk
5. Greg Inglis/Ben Barba

There is a big drop off in quality, 5 years ago the best players were considered future immortals and now we have a bunch of inconsistent players.

Cam Smith is still the most influential player in the game.. could play till he is 80 and still be the best
Munster is a beast
Cronk has done what he was bought to do
Keary was massive on the weekend and was good all year once he and Cronk clicked.. should be in the Blues team next year
Teddy.... welll, yea

That's probably because 5 years ago players like Ben Hunt and DCE weren't on $1 million a season contracts.

Only considering the one's who will be around for a while, i.e. not retiring soon

Munster
Ponga
Tuamololo
Tedesco
Mitchell

These are the stand out players in the comp for me.
