Tom Amone

Didn't have a great start to his NRL career but that doesn't mean he can't come back and play a role. It's up to him and he will need to prove himself.

He has been the best prop in the ESL for the past two seasons and made their Dream Team last year when he topped the run metres in the competition. This year he suffered a foot injury and his team's form in his absence deteriorated. Since his return, the team has moved up the ladder and have just made their way into the top six after beating the Sam Burgess coached Warrington team (currently third) last week.

He could stay in the ESL and dominate and continue to earn money and plaudits but, to his credit, he wants to come back to prove himself in the NRL. He comes a lot cheaper than a large number of middles signed in recent times and might be a very good clever moneyball acquisition.

I think he’ll be a real value for money signing. We wouldn’t have paid big money, he wanted to return to Aus and he got the opportunity to come to a big club with opportunities to play FG.

i wanna be sedated

Exactly this a big pre season and another hard working meter eater. We need all these props 27 rounds it’s not about game 1.

As long as every player fights and earns their position on the team, it doesn’t matter who is named for round one next season. Complacency arises when players think they are guaranteed a spot, as has happened in previous years.

The NRL is ruthless, if your not killing it almost immediately, your shipped to the UK.. I didn’t think he got much of an opportunity to shine here in big mins but over in the UK, he’s playing near 70-80mins and thriving. There’s not as big a skills gap in forwards between NRL and Superleague comparatively to halves and backs where the gap is evident. Amone will be a good pick up and is peaking at his age.

I've seen some reels of him playing. I've read what his coach has said about him. So I've got limited knowledge of him. But from what his coach said, he arrived there knowing his career was in his hands after not nailing down a regular NRL spot. He worked his ass off and became one of the better forwards not just in his team, but in SL. His coach is very sad such a key component of his team is leaving.

When we signed King, Curren, Preston and Mann, a lot of fans on here criticised the signings. They turned out ok.

So given that our team this year is built on effort and determination, he should at least fit the mould CC likes. Whether he can jump past the incumbents and become part of the first choice 17 is for him to earn and our staff to decide. I'm thinking we'll see a bit of him next year, if not from round 1, he'll feature in our rotation at stages throughout the year. I'll decide what I think of him when I see more of what he produces or doesn't produce for us.

I'm hoping that with the addition of Sitili Tuponuia (don't know/care if I mis-spelt it), Amone alongside Suluka-Fifita getting a full pre season, our forward pack will be a mix of big boppers when needed and high energy defensive workhorses with some agility to complement that. We'll have to wait and see. Have to say I've got faith in our recruitment team and coaching staff. I hope they keep getting it right.

No clue, suck it and see i guess.Who knows what will happen between now and christmas with players coming and going. There is going to be even less talent available once that new team starts up.

Sorry Alan i cant read your posts, can you write less? Its like listening to my wife, have to keep telling her short story please

He would start at lock ahead of Curran, behind Mann.

The lock position is going to very competitive next season if Amone is being considered for it as well. Especially with Karl O being passed fit. That would be 5 players for one position and a bench lock. I'd say he has been brought across as a prop. In any case it is a great problem to have comparative to previous years. At last we'll have some decent prop depth.

At 181cm and 110 kgs my guess is Amone will play as a prop, as he does for Leigh, either starting or off the bench.

Team First

Does he run the ball like Mitchell and play skip ball?

I think he’ll be a solid signing and will make the 17 if not wait for his opportunity through the HIA protocols or suspension he will earn his spot
