The Sydney Roosters have denied claims they agreed to terms with rugby league wild child Todd Carney, but admit they remain interested in securing his services.
Speaking ahead of his side's final training run before Friday night's Sydney Football Stadium clash with Wests Tigers, Roosters coach Brad Fittler denied the News Limited report that Carney would join the Bondi club for four years starting in 2010.
"As far as I know as the coach, we haven't signed Todd Carney," Fittler said.
"Like most other clubs, I'd say we'd be having a look at Todd Carney.
"I think Todd Carney's a talent, no doubt."
Carney's manager David Riolo also denied a deal had been agreed upon.
A number of clubs were said to be interested in giving Carney a second chance in 2010, with St George Illawarra and Penrith also said to be keen on luring him.
Carney is currently playing for the Atherton Roosters in northern Queensland after being sacked by Canberra midway through last year for a string of alcohol-fuelled off-field indiscretions.
Part of Canberra's decision to sack their star was an assurance from the NRL that Carney would not be allowed to immediately sign with an opposition club, with the talented but troubled playmaker banned from playing in the NRL in 2009.
He signed to play with Super League club Huddersfield but was unable to take up the offer when he was denied a visa to play football in England.
