From Formula1.com

Exhaust layout - to improve engine noise, teams must now use separate exhaust pipes for the turbine and wastegate rather than the single exhaust used in 2015. The rules allow for the option of using a twinpipe for the wastegate, though any exit must not be more than 100mm from the main pipe.

"Engine exhaust systems must have only a single turbine tailpipe exit and either one or two wastegate tailpipe exits which must all be rearward facing and through which all exhaust gases must pass."
Article 5.8.2 of the 2016 FIA Technical Regulations

Power unit allowance - with the number of championship rounds increasing from 19 to 21 this year, the number of power units each driver is allowed to use over the course of the season has increased from four to five. Consequently, grid penalties will only kick in when each driver uses a sixth of any one of the six disparate power unit elements.

Power unit development - Each manufacturer will be allowed 32 power unit tokens for in-season development. They may use these at their discretion. Additionally, whereas previously no manufacturer could supply more than one specification of power unit, engines homologated in previous seasons may now be re-homologated for use in 2016.
* in 2017 the token system will be removed completely.

Cockpit safety - the head protection structures either side of the cockpit are now 20mm higher than before and able to resist a compression load of 50N per 30 seconds.
* in 2017 the halo system will be fully introduced based on the Mercedes halo model.

Tyres - To encourage variation between race strategies, Pirelli are now making three, rather than two, of their five dry-weather tyre compounds (including the new purple-marked ultrasoft) available at each event. The Italian company will allocate two sets of tyres for the race (only one of which must be used) and one set which can only be used in Q3 (the softest of the chosen three compounds). Each driver will then be able to choose 10 further sets of tyres from the three compounds to take their weekend allocation to 13.

Virtual Safety Car - The Virtual Safety Car (VSC) may now be used in practice sessions as well as races in order to reduce stoppage times, while DRS will now be re-enabled immediately after a VSC period.

Accident analysis - For the purpose of accident analysis, each car must be fitted with a high speed camera and each driver must wear in-ear accelerometers at each event and all tests which are attended by more than one team.

Testing - The number of pre-season tests has been slashed from three to two, meaning that the teams may participate in eight days of track running ahead of the new season rather than the 12 they had available in 2015.

Pit to car messages - To ensure that drivers drive the car 'alone and unaided' and are not being 'coached' from the pit wall, stricter rules have been introduced to govern what information can and can't be given to a driver over team radio.
For example, a driver can no longer be given information about driving lines or how to adjust his car to make it faster whilst out on track.

Qualifying - a revised, elimination system has been agreed. It retains the idea of three separate qualifying segments to decide the grid, but under a changed format as set out below:

Q1
- 16 minutes
- After 7 minutes, slowest driver eliminated
- Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag
- 7 drivers eliminated, 15 progress to Q2

Q2
- 15 minutes
- After 6 minutes, slowest driver eliminated
- Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag
- 7 drivers eliminated, 8 progress to Q3

Q3
-14 minutes
- Ater 5 minutes, slowest driver eliminated
- Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag
- 2 drivers left in final 1 minute 30 seconds

If the driver is midlap and has slowest time, it is taken on his previous lap and he is called in/eliminated, it is not "first over the line". So a driver could start a new lap, be slowest and still be eliminated after 1 min 30.

Not sure how drivers holding up other drivers will work.

New Qualifying system scrapped after 1 race (Aus GP)

Not sure I feel about it ... teams still camping out in pits when they are getting caught out. Team who gets out first for each session can dominate.

i missed the new qualification ffs, but at least ferrari look to make a slight step forward because this is not their type of track, they were over a second behind this time last year and have halved the gap, hopefully their race pace is also half

This new qualifying is rubbish. I can't see it lasting the season tbh

You missed the biggest joke in modern day F1 Rodzilla.

Last like 5 minutes of Q3 involved cars stuck in the pits unable to get out and complete an out lap and flying lap in 90 seconds because they buggered it up, whilst Rosberg/Hambone camped in the pits.

It was like F1 were having a laugh at the world it was that bad. It will be changed before next race, as all the teams are pissed off about it.

Apparently Nikki Lauda approached the FIA with the idea of a reverse qualifying grid. You top the times for Q1, you go to back of grid for Q2. Charlie Whiting wanted something more in depth and the new idea was raised. According to Tito Wolff "it's rubbish", but they can't go back to the old qualifying idea, so need to perfect the new one.

..

Side note ... if you've never been to the F1 in person, it's a bucket list thing!

Haha, I also enjoy seeing Hamilton struggle

He's real bitchy when things don't go his way, just waiting for the mandatory Hamilton radio whinge

How good is the ad coverage during this race.. fucking awesome..

Getting really pissed off that they are showing so much racing when all I want to do is watch ads.

What a suprise.. Mercedes 1-2 as always. Fans will lose interest real fast unless something is done to make it more competitive.
