Been a long time since we’ve been in this position and living by the mantra of don’t try to fix it if it isn’t broken I can’t help but want better. We have exceeded my expectations so far in terms of where we sit on the current ladder but I feel like our draw has been fairly soft with titans x 2, eels, knights, under strength rabbits etc. Sharks, raiders and roosters are the exception and obviously broncos spanked us up there.

It sounds crazy considering where we sit on the ladder, but I don’t think Sexton is the 7 moving past this season. We are in a win now window the next 2-3years and there’s going to have to be some big calls made on how we balance the cap and squad.

Off contract end of 2026 we have Mahoney, Kiks, Hayward, Curran, Hayes, Tracey, Montoya, Todd, Hughes, Hopoi

With Sexton, Morrin, Wilson, DSF and Taaffe end of 2025.

who do we keep? I would think Hayward, Hayes, Todd and Hopoi should be priority signings as they aren’t going to break the bank to keep but the hard decisions are Tracey, Mahoney, Kiks and Curran. All these guys prob need to accept a decrease in salary if we plan to keep them. If Reed moves on Bailey to 9?

Kiks has been good in patches and poor in others, I don’t think we’ve found out how to use him properly since coming over. He has also been let down by halves in attack. Is he worth the price tag?

If we get Galvin does this mean Burton to centre or 13? With one of the younger guys coming in at 7, potentially Hayward?

What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Sharks Raiders and roosters were in good form when we won. We have to give the squad a lot of credit after last 2 games. Had we had all players on deck, we wouldn't be chasing points. Rather controlling the game from kick off. I feel you have doubt on our ladder position but we are playing a good game to be there at the moment and the system is on the verge of hopefully becoming something like what the storm and panthers do so well.

3 of 11 games have been top 8 sides and one of them was a big loss.

Burton won a comp at centre and with amount of halves coming through like woods, tia etc is his long term future at 6? Hardly a stupid question.

Kiks is on 800-900k and coming off contract soon. With amount of young guys coming through is it worth losing 1-2 like Hayes and Todd to keep him when he’s getting into 30s. Again didn’t think it was an unreasonable question, we can’t keep them all. Same with Mahoney and his wage, if we can’t afford to keep him Hayward is a handy replacement. I agree his playing well at 13 but the post was more regarding balance with salaries etc.

In regards to Galvin I said IF not when and what would that mean with how he would fit in being a 6.

Although you’ve mastered the use of the word fuck, maybe read the OP properly, never stated I knew who we were signing that’s what the post was about, the kennels thoughts on who we should/shouldn’t sign or re-sign

It honestly depends a lot on if we win a comp this year and how we finish the season off..it is going to be difficult with Perth coming into the comp. For mine kiks is a downgrade to 600k or so and if he wants to take the money elsewhere then he can - we have proven we can win without him but he is a great leader for us. We have to keep the young guys - Hayward, Hayes, Todd, Hughes etc.
What the Storm do well is players don’t want to leave them even if they’re taking a cut or not getting a chance (eg. Grant when Cam Smith was around and Faalogo now with Paps). I honestly can see us starting to build that type of culture here

Buzz,

Can I get a TLDR on this essay?

How about pointing out 3 games in 13 days champ and we still won.

If we get Galvin he's playing in the halves with Burton.

Sexton, DSF and Taaffe not needed (or good enough) next year so I don't think they'll be extended.

From the other list ideally keep all of them but Mahoney or Kikau could be a salary cap/age factor (we also have a lot of good young forwards).

We're in a good position but still need to look for a couple of upgrades.

I don’t know why everyone is getting so defensive about the whole soft draw thing. It’s simple to see 5/11 games have been against the bottom 4. That’s 10 competition points we’ve acquired, which is huge.

You can’t say our lone win has put them in bottom 4. They are there because they’ve lost majority of their games

Our wins against sharks and raiders are best to date. Our next games are dolphins, eels, bye, rabbits, panthers. All outside the top 8.

If we’d played 8/11 games against top 8 sides and sat bottom 4 you’d all be whinging our draw was too hard etc and it’s all the game out to get us like you carry on about the refs when we are losing.

It is a soft draw and i love it, we always get hard draws lol so its about time........ BUT with all injuries and suspensions we have the soft draw is no longer a soft draw.

People will clutch at any excuse to make us look unworthy of the results that speak for themselves, they should be looking at the club they follow before having a salty sook about us, gets old real quick with all the shit you come across.
No one said anything when we had a hard draw and got smashed year after year. Now we have a so called easy draw they want to have a sook. Screw that.

Well i should say the amount of injuries and suspensions negates the fact that we have a soft draw, its still a soft draw but we are way way down on troops.

But most the talkings heads on TV dont bring that up, its good to see Gus doing it on twitter lol

You take SIX forwards out of any team and see how good they go with the soft draw lol, they probably get pumped.
