Some good news coming into the Ashes:

Ben Stokes’ Ashes campaign in doubt as damning footage emerges of his Bristol bar brawl

DAMNING video footage has emerged of the violent brawl which has put star England all-rounder Ben Stokes’ Ashes campaign in serious jeopardy, with ex-skipper Michael Vaughan lamenting a “complete and utter F Up”.
The vision, obtained by UK newspaper The Sun, shows a man — allegedly Stokes, wearing a green shirt and white shoes — throwing punches at two men on a deserted street.

After initially appearing to act in self-defence against a man brandishing a bottle, the man in the green shirt quickly becomes the aggressor before finishing the fight with a savage right hook.

During the wild brawl all combatants appear unsteady on their feet while the man closely resembling Stokes throws “15 punches in one minute” according to a witness.

The 26-year-old Stokes was on Monday arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm following an incident outside Bristol nightclub Mbargo — an incident which left a 27-year-old man in hospital with facial injuries.

Stokes was on Wednesday named vice-captain of England’s 16-man Ashes touring party, but his position in the team will likely come under further scrutiny following the latest revelations.

X-rays have confirmed Stokes broke his pinkie finger on his right hand during the brawl, but that injury is not expected to stop him from being fit for the Ashes-opening Test at the Gabba on November 23.

CRISIS: ‘If Stokes doesn’t go, England should stay home’

SURVIVAL: Disgraced Stokes survives Ashes axe

ANALYSIS: The gaping holes in England squad

Whether Stokes is there or not could come down to a police investigation, which is ongoing.

“I saw Stokes throw 15 punches in one minute. No wonder he broke a finger,” a witness told the Sun.

The one factor working in the New Zealand-born star’s favour is that the footage appears to show one of the two men he is fighting holding a bottle - which is smashed to the ground before the punches are unleashed - raising questions about whether self-defence could be argued.

England teammate Alex Hales was also caught up in the drama.

The opening batsman was out drinking with Stokes and, like the fiery all-rounder, was dropped for the final two one-day matches against the West Indies.

Hales is heard on the video urging Stokes to calm down, according to The Sun.

Certainly, there are concerns about how this will affect England’s preparations for the Ashes.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan voiced his concerns on Twitter.

“The Ashes are looking like being lost even before England arrive in Australia,” he said.

“What a complete and utter F Up.”

If the bust-up does ultimately end the all-rounder’s campaign before it has even begun, Kevin Pietersen believes England may as well give up any hopes of retaining the urn - sensationally urging Trevor Bayliss and his troops to cancel their flights.

If Stokes does find himself on a plane headed down under, former England captain Hussain has warned him to keep his head down in Australia and to expect the locals to try and provoke him.

“If this sort of thing can happen in Bristol then it could happen anywhere in Australia during the Ashes tour,” he penned in his column for the Daily Mail.

“You can be absolutely sure there will be someone in Australia out to make a name for themselves who will know what Ben is like and will try to wind him up.

“He will have to be a lot more careful than he has been so far in his career.”

Hussain has warned the fiery Englishman that he risks throwing it all away if he continues down the current path.

“Just as things always seem to happen to Stokes on the field the same is true, sadly, off it and it has reached the point where it could damage the career of a potentially great England cricketer.”

And Hussain does not see that as a coincidence.

“His temperament, character and passionate, competitive approach to the game and life make him the cricketer he is.

“Trouble is, it is clearly not something he can switch off when he is away from cricket. He is not going out looking to pick a fight with anyone but it is just how he is. It makes him very vulnerable when outside the cricket environment.”

Repeat of the last game so far, promising start than cue batting collapse. With that kind of start anything short of 350+ is pretty average

Australia in India no good, and vice versa
Unfortunately it's pretty much modern cricket now, everyone is a home ground wonder. India are not even remotely scary once ya get them on our pitches. At 0-230 in 34th over, we could have really scored anything.

I think it's more to do with your first few points, every country now is dishing up T20 hit and giggle pitches for ODI's, battsman are using ridiculous tree trunks for bats where edges go for 6, they have changed the rules in ODI's to better suit the batsmen too. There are quite a few quality fast bowlers around, just pretty hard for em now with everything stacked against em.

true, also when was the last time you saw swinging pitch or a turner for a one dayer? pre 2000 maybe.

Aussie pitches used to be bouncy, pacy and every **** could swing the ball all day... now you hardly see any swing even with new ball.

good fast bowlers are around like starc but the ***** are always broken. steyn was the only fast bowler who no one could score off, but he has been completely destroyed due to 20-20, plus he has got older too.
