A Sydney high-school student has agreed to sign the richest contract ever offered to a teenager in the NRL.

Foxsports.com.au first reported boom Rabbitohs prodigy Joseph Suaalii will sign a multi-year deal with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The deal is reported to be worth $1.7 million and is the richest deal offered to a teenager in the NRL or in Australian rugby.

It took such a whopping deal to lock the teen freak into a career in the NRL after Wallabies coach Dave Rennie and Waratahs stars also pursued the talent’s signature.

The report outlines the contract cannot be registered by the NRL until Suaalii turns 17 on August 1.

That's a lot of faith in one kid.

That's a lot of money for a 16 year old. Hopefully he lives up to expectations because it's a lot of pressure on a young kid and most don't live up to it.

Clubs are signing teenagers to big deals more and more. Souths have done this a few times recently. They did the same with Corey Allan which backfired massively and he's now on 400k from what I've heard which is crazy for what ended up being a reserve grade outside back..

The Roosters outbid us with Sam Walker on a huge deal.. The point is, these bidding wars for teenage prodigys are getting out of hand and will only continue.

They must have borrowed the Roosters sombrero...

T Burgess, Cook, Gagai, Johnston, Mitchell, Murray, Reynolds, Roberts and Walker would all be on good coin. Add in Arrow and Suaali to next years cap...and they're going to sign Ado-Carr? Fuuuuuuck off

There is no way that Burgess and Johnston are on big money.

Don't worry mate, if he turns out that good Politis will find away (legal or otherwise) to get him to your club.

I always felt when kids get that amount of money they never work as hard again. As if you’ll bust your guts all preseason when you have 1.7 million sitting around waiting for you.

you’d hope this kid will make the grade but more often then not these kids never turn out to what they promise to be.
