All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams has caused a social media stir after tweeting graphic images of dead children following his visit to Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon.

Williams tweeted two images of dead children with severe injuries last night.

"What did these children do to deserve this? This summer share a thought for the innocent lives lost everyday in war," he wrote.

Williams had visited refugee camps in Lebanon's Bekka Valley earlier this month as a Unicef ambassador, and tweeted images of his interactions with local children.

His graphic tweet drew mixed reaction from his Twitter followers.

Some users criticised the graphic nature of the photos, and labelled the tweet "insensitive".

"Full on bro," one man wrote.

"The photos should be censored, respecting the dead if I'm not mistaken," another wrote.

Others supported Williams' decision to post them.

"It is a ferocious reality. Good on him for sharing. People can un-follow," one user wrote.

"Let's pray they see the day when birds will cover the sky and not bombs," another wrote.

Williams has previously posted calls to donate to Syrian refugees and updates about his time spent in the camps.

Might be graphic but thats the reality the West needs to see, honestly you don't see too many sports stars or even stars in general doing this or going to the Middle East to what's really up.

To the person who replied with this "Let's pray they see the day when birds will cover the sky and not bombs", Ameen.
