To be honest if you don't need one, tell her not to get you one. It's a waste of money. They need to be charged everyday and have the smallest screen making them hard to operate. The good things that they provide such as measuring steps and heart-rate etc... are best done by fit bit which are specialist devices for these uses, are cheaper to run and maintain, and only need to be charged every ~5 days.

Depends what you're after. I have the Gear S3 which is excellent and looks great but it does have its issues. It uses a tyzen operating system rather than android so you're stuck with the apps and watch faces that Samsung releases. There are many but not as much as Android.

Problem you get with Android watches is that they either look like rubbish or they look good but have flat tires. You'll notice this with Moto watches. If you look at the round display it has a black bar at the bottom like this:

While the S3 looks like this:

The Nixon doesn't suffer from the flat tire effect but does have some other issues. The screen isn't as good as something like the S3 and the battery life is terrible. All smart watches have terrible battery life but this one is extra terrible.

I have the gear fit 2 from when i bought my phone. It's okay and tracks most of the bs you'd want.

I agree with Wahesh, if don’t need one don’t get it... but With human instinct, we all know, if you’ve never had one, your curiosity is telling you to try it. It’s true, you won’t know you’ll need one until you’ve bought one!

I just bought one off indiegogo. It's a crowd funding site.
Called zetime. It's hybrid has normal mechanical hands over touchscreen.
3atm waterproof also.
3 day battery life on smart watch mode and 30 day for mechanical hands.Which none of the big guys come close to besides Garmin.
Hopefully it's as good as it looks

I use the Fitbit Charge 2 and I bought a stainless steel band. I just use it for the heart rate (obviously) and track my steps and exercise.

PS you can get notifications from your phone.

If a watch accurately tells the time, how much smarter does it really need to be? Smartwatches are the last thing society needs. We're already slaves to our phones.

I mainly use my watch for notifications. It's handy to be able to glance at your wrist when you phone buzzes to see what it is. My phone buzzes about 200 times per day. Usually emails, messages, etc. This just saves me from pulling my phone out every time it buzzes. It also helps with phone calls. I can quickly look at my wrist to see who is calling. When I'm gardening or cooking I tend to answer the call on my watch so I can keep my hands free. Plus the fitness tracking stuff is handy. It tells me how lazy I've been and says that I should get off my fat arse.

I think the value in them is either meeting schedules, and/or health tracking.

Meeting reminders, setting calendar entries with a watch keeps you on track than a phone/tablet/PC. Health tracking is good to set goals, and it’s in our nature to set, view and strive for goals.

Speak for yourself. It's in my nature to sleep.

Ask for a wall clock on a gold chain.
Grandmaster Flash style :grinning:
You're thinking of Flavor Flav. I made that same mistake. Went to a fancy dress party with a clock hanging around my neck. When people asked who I was I said "Grandmaster Flash". Only one person knew who that was and he pointed out that I actually mean "Flavor Flav". No one at the party knew who Flavor Flav was either.

The next party I went as Shaft. No one knew who Shaft was either except for two people who said "You don't look like Samuel L. Jackson". I lost all faith in humanity that day.

Garmin vivoactive HR, after researching what was available ... this one ticked most of the boxes.
Really wanted an accurate HR monitor without the need for chest band.
I'm not sure this is very precise, however; I've attained steps goals by simply moving my arm. Though this is true for most of the devices available.
GPS-tracking for rides/walks etc doesn't do well in areas where GPS traditionally doesn't enjoy great accuracy; CBD areas and underground. Exactly where I live and commute.
Despite it's shortfalls, it's informative and useful. Easy to use, app interactive.
And functional for wearing on right wrist.

~8 days battery life if standard tracking, ~8 hours if tracking with GPS.

Black Friday US sales ~USD$200 maybe less.

Forgot to mention, it's pretty ugly, clunky looking.
