Game winning half, despite his millionaire 5:8th

Heard from someone with pretty good info here is that they don’t think they sexton the I’ll be with us after this year. He wanted to stay but frustration growing with lack of $ from Gus. Assume either faith in Hayward or woods or someone else brewing

Yeah, if he was staying you would think it would be finalised by now....interesting

Gus is a long-term thinker so I personally wouldn't rule us out of getting DCE in for a year while we wait for Woods to develop more. Who knows though. Sexton is doing alright, but it is interesting we haven't re-signed him by now.

All the media think he's done deal at Rooster. I think for 1-2 years he'd be massive here and would give Woods appropriate time to develop, at the same time we'd have an elite half while we're waiting. Sexton just isn't being re-signed because he's one of the worst halves in the competition (if he did get extended it'd be for minimum years and little money, Super League looming for him).

Is DCE really a smart buy? He plays for a year then leaves a gap at halfback could dismantle us considerably. Relying on Woods at the sake of the first team is risky, for that reason I think we will persist with Sexton. The market has nothing, a half would win us a comp but if it doesn’t (DCE) it’s a set back.

I'm just trying to look at it from a perspective of the club.. I mean tbh I don't think we're in it for DCE, but I also am not sure they are going to go all in on Sexton.. I just feel like, if they were 100% sure, they'd of locked him in by now... They are thinking long-term sustained top of the table success.. we are top of the table now, but do we have the spine to go all the way? like consider we get into a shoot out with Melbourne, for example. It remains to be seen.

haha I dunno about one of the worst, but he's definitely got a lot of room for improvement... I think at times he gets saved by our lock options.

If we had the halfback I think we go all the way, Sexton i’m doubting reaches that level. It’s what cost us last year, we’re better all round now but we never went that far in the knockouts last year. If we go out this year you’d bet it’s because of the spine situation. DCE is only worth a crack if the clubs confident on the next man up. Hard debacle were a chip of a premiership.

yeah 100%.. we score a lot of our points on the back of sheer dominance, and good team play, but I don't think there's a lot of our games where Sexton is best on ground, where as you look at Penrith, Melbourne, etc, and their halfbacks are just about always top 3, often best on ground.

If we’re not over powering teams it’s close we don’t have the X-factor or half which can create the play. Sexton sticks to a certain structure and is a pace behind a lot of the time, feels like we haven’t had that elite tier player for a long time. But what we’re doing now is quality even teams with that elite player can’t replicate it. Taylor and CC can work on attacking structures all they want but we lack the proper link man to properly kill top sides. Might win a comp might not but if we don’t it’s clear why.

we're lucky we have good lock options, because they are able to make up for it a lot of the time.. Personally I would back this team as is to win a premiership, just because of our grit and the fact we can generate points without relying on our halfback, but yeah the club might be looking for somebody who they believe has a higher ceiling... who knows.. Maybe they just wanted to see Sexton play against some better teams this year.
