There are only FOUR teams who are serious contenders for the Premiership, the others are there to make up the numbers or atleast work towards becoming a top four team.
Having a strong squad with plenty of depth this year means that we are in a good position to make the top eight despite the setback against souffs last week. Every time the 'serious contenders' have a game together, eg roosters, bulldogs, penrith, souths you know you are in for a physical game where no side will give in easily. On most occasions both sides will come out of the game with multiple injuries or suspensions.
My question is: What is the point of putting so much energy and turning up at full strength when you play these teams so early in the season? Yes of course the two points are important but it is a long season and you can't win them all. Why not instead rest players for those 'big games' which channel 9 and co talk up as grand final rematches, semi final rematches and all that bs. It would be better to turn up against the weaker sides at full strength, take the two points and steadily build through out the season. The minor premiership is useless and doesn't mean anything. As long as you make the top four you will give yourself a good chance. Origin already stuffs up the season as it is but there has got to be a way to get through this part of the season unscathed and remain in the top eight. Our draw is actually very good over the next 4-5 weeks but unfortunately we got screwed over in the souffs game.
Do you agree/disagree or any thoughts on how to get through the early stages of the season and the origin period.
