SMH Ryan paps to test the market

Im not worried now sharks will get him now we dont pay overs and sharks will so pappy to sharks we just try get may and thompson

we only need one out of may and Thompson we dont need both. also I'm sure if we made an offer to paps he would accept it, providing he decides to leave Melbourne

I posted (maybe on another thread) regarding offering a top player a set fee that reduces every few days he doesnt accept it. You also advise that players manager you are also offering a contract to a young player whos offer rises every dew days. First to sign gets tye contract.

The example was offering Hunt 1M a year for 2 years but the offer drops by 50k every 3 days and in the meantime, offer Sexton 500k with offer rising by 50k every 3 days.

You really cant lose unless Hunt doesnt budge at all and Sextons offer gets to around 650k at which point you pull the pin.

Worst case you end up with both for a fee of 1.5M which is hardly a disaster.

Same thing can be done with Pappy.

Offer him 1M on a regressing offer and tell him you are offering another young off contract FB a rising offer. First to sign gets the FB spot.

Put some pressure on the player and their manager.

Agree with paps but disagree with needing both. Honestly think it’s perfect for us to get these 2. Could be exactly what we need to complete our pack!

King Curran are only 2 genuine week in week out first graders.

Big ? On the rest.

Fifita and Hughes can be those bodies but yeh still ?

Parra may be favourite to sign Paps. He has had experience with Ryles coaching methods and he may want it again.

Not likely they have Iongoi at FB they won’t need paps. Plus looks like they’re gonna go after JAC.

How we going on the Thompson signing haven't heard anything since Saturday when channel 9 Danny weidler supposed to break the that he has signed with us

You'd have to think we are in discussions with Pappy and Hunt and Thompson and May.

Would be disappointing if we dont land at the very least one of those, but ideally 2 of them and 1 being a forward and 1 spine player.

Getting 2 forwards wont do much to improve us, no matter what people think.

Agree we need a STAR in the spine ..... Someone who can create or score a try out of nowhere. Never seen a TOP Bulldogs team without one.

Currently we have a lot of very good players without that rockstar/gamechanger.

Paps looks like one of the few who may be available for the foreseeable future. He ticks all the boxes off field as well and would become a team leader. A very impressive individual schooled in the Melbourne way, which is not to be overlooked.

Not knocking Tracey who i like a lot however, Paps is at another level.

His injury history is a concern, but at his best he was one of the elite players in the comp and will only be 28 in 2026. I 100% trust the Bulldogs to do the due diligence if we were to sign him.

I had been advocating for Hunt as i deemed him the best player available, but Paps surpasses him ...... younger and much more dynamic.

Also agree we do not need two forwards ..... Either May or Thompson will be enough. I have a preference for May as I like his ability to create second phase play and is available for next season ..... Providing he isn't a complete dickhead of course. Once again due diligence. .... CC has known him since he was a kid.

I expect Hughes to improve a lot, and we have added Tupouniua, Armone and DFS .... Todd will also be knocking on the door.

Add these two to the current team, who have a majority of players projected to improve, and we become one of the best rosters in the NRL.

High end talents such as KO, Woods and Sloan are also in the wings.

Exciting times.

Top post and you've got me on board the Pap's train though him not being able to come till '26 sours it's a little for me.

Agree re May. Our club isn't dumb and will only sign him if it's right for our club. We've walked away from other players as they don't fit our culture, and we'll do the same in this case if we have to.

As you say though, CC has history with him so I trust his judgement.
