I for one am very proud of the effort put in last night. They were up against it in the first half in part due to the officiating and also from errors they made which gifted Souths possession.We did a mountain of tackles up to half time and the possession ration was something like 70-30 split.We should have been behind by substantially more than we were yet with a bit of luck we could have been only two behind at half time oranges. Souths had zero respect for us last night and we really took it to them.They say you manufacture your own luck but thus far we have not been able to do so and had a few passes stuck last night and a few fifty fifties gone our way we might have taken the two points. I watched the Souths fans after the game and they were more relieved than excited by the win... I find it more than a coincidence that we NEVER get the rub of the green against Souths, no matter how either club is travelling and it has been since that Black Friday a few years ago...
I am not debating the penalties last night that we gave away....well maybe a few of them, but I am most certainly debating the ones we SHOULD have gotten and didn't.
We should of at least gotten several for ruck infringements..one where a Souths defender was lying in the ruck impeding our play the ball, making zero effort to move out of the way..in fact the ball was played into him on the ground as our player had no choice; several against Cook for not being square and on a few of those occasions he was standing BESIDE our man playing the ball; slow peels by Bargeass.. we were penalised a couple of times in the game for this .. in fact the first of the game after 40 odd seconds was for exactly that:; a punch in the face from Sutton on one of our players after he had (Sutton) played the ball: a Dogs player being bowled over chasing a kick through when we had a try disallowed on the ten minute mark was nothing for us in fact Souths were awarded the penalty in the actual incident where Gayguy ran out of his line to basically obstruct Holland but gee whiz our player was deemed to have not given Gayguy the right to contest; the inside the ten....being at the ground it is so much easier to see the penalties that should be given for inside the ten and in the first part of the game we were sometimes being pulled back 12 metres to Souths 8 or 9 but the usual suspects of Cook and Sutton left early many times last night got way with is as did Cameron Murray. Elliot was the victim of a nasty tackle which should have garnered a penalty but no action was forthcoming after he was forced from the field fora HIA after what looked suspiciously like a crusher...
We were accused of spoiling the game as a spectacle by the coach of Souths..what world does this guy live in???We used suspect tactics and his blokes were angels??? Coach and Captain are both of the same ilk...both whingers and whiners and major manipulators of the referees. Bennett had the hide to say he pulled up short of calling the officials inept because he knows he will be punished but the implication was well and truly there.There have been three clubs in this competition who have at times used very questionable tactics and the common denominator in all of them is the coach..should not be too difficult to work out who those sides are.
