Bit of a meh game. Parramatta continue to get away with a win whilst playing poorly and today just about any other side, well, maybe not the Broncos, would have beaten them.
A few observations on the game.....
We did some okay things, but like usual we show little urgency to cover up dropped balls. Case in point Lafai who just wanted to argue the toss when he lost the ball, allows Parra to get an offload away and score.
Napa is standing still when he gets the ball in attack and then just runs up with all the effectiveness of a wet lettuce.Never bends the line.
We desperately need a decent play maker and our spine is the weakest in the NRL.
We should have taken the shot for goal from the penalty too rather than the quick tap, where we wandered aimlessly within the ten as we normally do, like we have no idea how to score from that distance.
Foran unfortunately looks like he is already playing elsewhere with very little enthusiasm today.
Katoa at least provided some spark and the intensity dropped once JMK returned and started playing dummy half.
Our shining light today just for his magnificent effort in scoring a try was Jake Averillo. the kid has ability.
Not saying that it would have made a difference in the end, but that decision by the referee ( surprise Mr Sutton) to penalise us for obstruction when Montoya scored instead of going upstairs like he normally would for any other team , compounded by the fact that it was Foran and not Jackson arguing the toss with him and missing the opportunity to challenge it, cost us. Technically we scored four tries today and ironically one of our tries was a carbon copy of the one disallowed, yet it was awarded without reference.
Stats wise the only thing that we really did not win was the penalty count , that was 8-3 to the Eels. Completions were equal.
We at least won the second half 10-0 but that was little comfort considering we were outscored 18-6 in the first.
