well recruited and re-signed by the Roosters but talk was 3-4 weeks ago that Walker would be re-signed on $300K a season, not $500K... they have to lose somebody

Bro that’s not right because he was already on $350k a season before he even played a game and they didn’t even have any intentions for him to play this season.
They wanted to play a Lamb / Keary combo to allow Walker to progress and apply his trade in lower grades learning from Cronk and co.
It was only through injury to Keary and Lamb that he was thrown into the deep end and made to steer the team around.

Why the fuck would he re-sign for 500k when most clubs would offer him much more and the Brisbane teams would offer him a fortune?

Clearly he's being paid under the table. If the NRL approve this deal it shows how corrupt the league is.

Ash Taylor showed less and he signed for 1.2 million. Dylan Brown signed for 600k before he played FG. Sualli signed for 500k before he played FG. Yet Walker looks like one of the best halves in years and he re-signs without going on the open market to start a bidding war? Yeah right.. What a rort as usual..

To put things further into perspective.. Chad Townsend who is barely a First Grader signed for 600k plus from Nth Qld.. Adam Reynolds, who has had numerous injuries and is in his 30's, is getting 750k or more..

And they expect us to believe that the future Origin half for Queensland for the next ten years who is already dominating games is only worth 500k?

I'm sure Brisbane and Nth Qld would rather have Walker than who they're signing...

For about the same amount. But that was after only two FG games. If we were to try and sign him now he'd be worth 650k or more.

With how few good halves there are in the comp, let alone that are available, some desperate club would offer that much or more for Burton, Walker etc.

Burton isn't in the same boat, he has been applying his trade in the lower grades and wasn't a rep star unlike walker who is 4 years his junior and been a rep star and a stand out right through out the low grades. Burton is now coming into his own where as Sam has been outstanding every game since his debut.

If Walker tested the market right now, he'd easily get offers of 800k from teams desperate for a halfback like Brisbane, North Qld, etc.

He should be paid according to his market value.

I called it in the other thread. This is absolutely ridiculous. Nobody was even in for him.

Surprised the cheats have even admitted to $500k per season in the media.
Thought he would have been publically listed as having signed for $100k and has 'a real love of the club' meaning he will be happy to play for bugger-all despite being able to sign for $900k or thereabouts at plenty of other clubs.
Chookpens always reek of shit, the Bank of Bondi Roosters are masters of upholding that tradition.

So we recruit him, develop him and re-sign him and it's a rort? lol

If you want to know why Sam Walker signed for only two years at @500K for the Roosters, it's because multi billionaire and club chairman Nick Politis personally handled the negotiations, flew Sam's dad down and included him in those negotiations, presented not only the contract, but a plan to develop this kid into the future as we want him forever.

If you want to know why Adam Reynolds signed with the Broncos for less than what he was offered at the Sharks, it's because the Sharks sent the head of football operations to negotiate with Reynolds, he initially low balled him only for the Sharks to realise their mistake and up the ante.

Professionalism is a major difference between good clubs and shit ones.

You mentioned Ash Taylor, he is a prime example of what happens when young players take money over career development. Walker will probably end up the highest paid player in the game, but only if he develops as a marquee player and he's not that yet.

He’s going to be driving a Bentley around that he bought for a bargain from City Ford. Some guy called Sonny bill traded it in at the end of last year. He said it had bad juju which explains the heavily discounted price that Sam Walker was able to get.

The point is other clubs would have paid at least 200-300k more for Walker. Why would he sign for 300k less unless it was being made up in other ways? You alluded to how it's made up with Uncle Nick's influence.

If Walker signed with Brisbane or any other club, it wouldn't ruin his career. This notion that only top four clubs can develop talent and are the best place for any young player is absurd.

Maybe Walker isn't money hungry like most players. Maybe he thinks he hasn't earnt his big payday yet. He will win a GF before some of the others on huge coin.

I'm not saying he should leave the Roosters. I always assumed he'd re-sign because they don't lose players like him. But he can still re-sign with them for what he's worth. Why would he just forfeit 300k a year and give the Roosters a discount?

We have to also remember that figures thrown around by the media are rarely accurate.

Salary sombrero concerns aside, I also believe that some players will take less money to play with certain clubs for a number of reasons - premierships, family, familiarity etc. As much as I hate them, the Rooters are probably the best run team in the comp, and a young bloke would also probably prefer to live in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney than Townsville.
